I've been thinking a lot about death lately

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOAcRKZxjy4

"Last Minutes with Oden was voted best video at the Vimeo Festival + Awards over the weekend and boy did it deserve to win.

The film is a six-minute long documentary about a former addict, Jason Wood, putting down his much loved pooch, Oden. Directed by Eliot Rausch, the short sensitively portrays what it’s like to go through something like this—is there anything more wrenching than having to put a dying pet down?—as well as expertly tying in Jason’s brutal backstory.

The film is tightly and economically directed and to say it’s moving is a criminall understatement (I cried my eyes out—just sobbed like a baby—watching this earlier in the year and just now).

The Vimeo awards were held at the School of Visual Arts in New York and judged by folks like David Lynch, Roman Coppola, Morgan Spurlock, and M.I.A. "

On the subject of death, have you read "Tuesdays with Morrie"?
A wonderful book. Here's some of his wisdom:

"As you grow old, you learn more. If you stayed at twenty-two, you'd always be as ignorant as you were at twenty-two. Aging is not just decay, you know. It's growth. It's more than the negative that you're going to die, its also the positive that you understand you're going to die, and that you live a better life because of it."

At some point we all wake up in the morning and realize that our life is more than half over. Many of us also realize that we may not have enough time left to accomplish everything we want. I prefer to concentrate on doing what I can in the time I have left.

I'm going to pull up at the pearly gates in a burning SL65AMG, carrying a bottle of rum, smoking a cigar, with 2 strippers in the car and be like what a ride!

I've read excerpts, a lot of good wisdom.

When you think about death, it usually means you want to leave some sort of legacy to be remembered by. I'd like to build something (useful) out of stone that will be around for hundreds of years. It wouldn't even have my name on it but it would be part of future generations' lives. Maybe a BBQ pit .

LIFE'S JOURNEY is not to arrive at the grave safely, in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "Holy $hit, what a ride!"

I met him in a bar in West Palm Beach back in the 90's. Barely remember it however.

He sounded like an interesting guy. Crazy, but interesting.

At one time I thought it was an act, but now I think most of it was due to his "dabbling" in chemicals.

I'm sure that was part of it, but it appears that he had other "issues." Lots of folks "dabbled" without similar results.

I can almost respect his choice of taking his own life, but it was bad timing for me. The same week a family friend's young child died after being very ill for her entire life, so I will always have mixed feelings about his exit.
