WTF did they do with Pickers?
The geniuses at History channel have moved Pickers to another time slot apparently.
Anybody know where?

That show is a joke. Those guys walk out of a warehouse after having spent 2 to 3 hunderd bucks on stuff that they estimate is worth only 4 to 5 hundred bucks at best. Yeah, percentage wise it's decent, but after you factor in time and expenses they're in the hole. If I went to half of the places they went to I'd have bought the whole kit and kaboodle at every one of them. You just don't do that much digging to buy a few things to make a few bucks. Well, I guess that's unless some network is paying for your gas and time.

Yeah, it's a joke. I contacted them and said that I have one of the best Coca Cola collections in the country and was ready to sell. They didn't call back.

Nobody says they make it off what is shown on the air.
The stuff they find is real. Sure it is partially staged. Big deal. Better than a sit com with canned laughs.

Oh yeah, like you really need to stage the laughs on Two And A Half Men, for example.

Wednesday at 8:00 here, Tom. Although it does look like they're into reruns now.

it's staged just like american chopper, repoman, dog the bounty hunter etc etc.but still it's kinda cool to see some of the stuff they show.

You mean Dig the Bounty Hunter is staged? I sometimes catch that show when channel surfing and usually like it because it seems genuine.
I know Repo on TruTV is fake. Can't believe I used to like that show because I thought it was real. It's so ridicously fake now that I can't believe I thought it had some reality to it. Southern Fried Sting is another joke show, but I found myself chuckling at one episode I caught just to see what the show is about. Are there people who watch these shows thinking it's all real? I can understand some staged parts, but come on! I actually enjoyed Top Shot and kept track of it from beginning to end. |

Pickers and Pawn Stars are both guilty pleasures of mine. God only knows how much is real.
Playing Chumly as the stooge is getting to be a bit much on Pawn Stars. Also, one wonders how many pawn shop owners are going to be as honest as Rick is. They had a lady with a Faberge piece, an elaborately jeweled spider. He asked her what she wanted, she said $2K, he said "I'd love to give you $2K but unfortunately I have a conscience. I'll give you $15K for it." Then the lady says, "how about $17K?" In an off screen remark he said, "that's what I hate about having a conscience. You tell someone they've won the jackpot and they ask for another spin at the wheel." An interesting story if it actually played out that way. Here's a discussion of it: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2103769 Not meaning to hijack, I like Pickers for similar reasons. You see stuff you'd likely never see otherwise. The guys with the humongous collections that don't want to sell any of it are wild.

I like Pawn Stars and Ice Road Truckers. Other than that Pickers is dumb, the places they go through look like the junk property's I have had to clean up over the years. To me it just looks like they are in need of a 100 yard trailer and some equipment to haul it all away.
Rick behaves on Pawn Stars because he is on TV, if you want to keep the show and make more money you have to play nice and give up a bit on the stuff they film you on.

I used to have a Chumley working for me. It might be fun to watch on TV but in reality it's a horror show that never ends.

At first, Chumley was OK, sorta cute but they're really leaning on it now. Dude is getting fatter by the episode, man boobs a showin.' Big Hoss is all right, a tad arrogant sometimes - he may break me of the habit of using "man" too much: "How much you want for that, man?" "I dunno, man, I was thinking more like $18."

Too many TV stations, too little talent/quality. I just spent two weeks trapped in a hotel with a TV and a slow internet connection; how do people watch that crap?
