Could YOU get by with what Rangles did & Stay out of Prison?

The title stands by itself.

Simply put-NO. There are two sets of laws in this country now; one for citizens and none for politicians and illegal aliens.

I probably couldn't get away with most of the crimes committed by american elected officials on a routine basis; it's practically a prerequisite for holding office.

Two million dollars in legal fees, no attorney, guilty on 11 of 13 counts, and the comittee recommends censure.

I don't believe his infractions rise to the level of being a prison-able offense. Most of the charges against him were minor, although I do view the tax evasion charge rather disturbing.

What I find appalling is that apparently he was recently re-elected

Apparently some see him as a worthy representative... or maybe they just feel that he 'deserves' to finish up his outstanding career 'with dignity'...

He's done an outstanding job for his constituancy for many decades. I'm not at all surprised he got reelected.

You're dodging the question. Could YOU stay out of prison if convicted of income tax evasion? Al Capone got 11 years with some of it or all of it in Alcatraz.

Apparantly in his district, all these infractions are a badge of honor, much the same as Marion Barry.

Very few people get thrown in prison for a minor tax problem. Comparing Rangle to Capone is bit over the top don't you think?

In Rangles case, the total amount owned was about 17k spread out over something like 18 years. In any case, whomever was doing his taxes was probably more responsible than Rangle. I rather doubt Rangle would willingly risk his career for a measly $800 a year, if it was that much before accumulated interest and penalties were assessed.

And yes, One could easily avoid prison by paying the penalties, interest and principle due. There are thousand upon thousands of citizens and businesses that owe much much more money to the IRS that are not in jail.

Under reporting federal taxes . . . unlikely imprisonment, otherwise they'd outnumber drug convictions in federal prison. So the simple answer to those charges is "likely."

You mean...something like what Brett Favre is doing up here in Minnesota?

Apparently, no one in his district knows what taxes are, let alone having to pay 'em.

Someone has to bring home the pork and bacon. So I wonder...Was Rangle using his constituents as "dependents" on his tax returns because "...I have to work so hard for them?"

Maybe I'll run for office and get some of that thar' free money myself!!
