Interesting going down memory lane. It was my pleasure to benefit from many folks willing to share their experience here. Also, some years ago I joined many fellow MBZ owners at the open house of the new shop opened by the guys behind MercedesShop. Too bad the business fell on hard times, it was first class.

I joined in January 2002 looking for some help with the water pump on the 616 in my 307d motorhome. Nobody on the site had any clue about MB vans then. That situation hasn't changed much in 10 years.

Good thread Larry.

Mike Tangas came by to see me and the family in Soperton one time. He was passing through and I invited him by. Seemed to be a good guy.

I agree with all of the above postings concerning folks.

Who was it that used to know everything about the W124 car that left? It has not been that long ago that he left the site because he was "moving on". Was it JCE?

Don't forget Scott Longston either. He always posted some good stuff.

That would be Arthur Dalton.

He also knows a ton about the vintage cars: W108's and the 60's era pagoda convertibles.

I had dinner with him at the restaurant he managed in New Hampshire many, many years ago. He struck me as a genius with electronics. Nice guy, wish he were still here.

Scott comes around from time to time. I met him at a gtg in Atlanta about 6 yrs ago. Memorable to say the least.

JCE was the 124 guy. iirc he had some health issues as well, hope he's doing well!

Right after having dinner with Suginami, Mike Tangas, JCE, and his lovely wife in Southern LA Couinty, JCE told me that he would be backing away from Mercedesshop posting and many other activities because he and his wife were going to raise their grand child. He was very knowledgable, but I don't think he was the 124 guru you were talking about. He was a super nice, super smart and affable guy.

Oh yes he's still around. He bought my 560SEL from me a few months ago.

I had forgotten about Aaron. If I remember correctly, he had quite a fleet of collector MB's, many of them cabriolet's. I remember hiim telling about taking the family to a concert in a classic convertible. He also did lots of pretty serious repair work. I got the idea he was a pro tech, but I don't remember for sure. He was a typical stalwart among the early stalwarts and there were MANY super savvy Mercedes wrenches on here in the early days.
