CFLs won't work in my Garage Door Openers ???

There was the thread up here recently about CFLs.

So I had to replace the lights in both of my garage door openers.
(One the socket was F'up but I was able to fix it).

But I tried to put in CFLs, they didn't work.
I verified the CFL is working, I verified the socket works.
I tried this on TWO seperate Lift-Master door openers.

So can anyone explain why this would be ?

And what am I and assuming several million other people with garage door openers, going to do when they stop making / allowing regular light bulbs ?

Thanks for the link Iwrock- I was wondering myself why it wouldn't work because if an incandescent works a CFL should too. Actually, I wish they wouldn't and then we could continue to buy regular bulbs after 2012!

Just cut the power to the garage door opener before you stick a screwdriver into the light socket. The only thing that you should smell cooking today is the turkey.

No, also in cold environments CFL's suck. We had one in our garage and during the winter time it took like 5 minutes for it to put out anything more than like 20w.

It doesn't get cold enough where you live.

Ha!

We went to Lake Tahoe last weekend... It was 20* F, and snowing... Flip flops dont work all to well in that weather.

I have three door operators, and AFAIK, CFL's do not work in any of them. I am suspect of the solution posted in that link, but it's worth a try.
I have a suspicion that some GDO's run on DC current which definitely will not work with CFL's. In my spare time I'll verify this and report back.

more evidence that CFLs, like corn ethanol and other "green" cures for problems that dont exist, are not such a nifty idea....
