"Why I love this forum" or "Are Jaguar owners all idiots?"

This was a thread from a Jaguar forum that I found in the 3000GT/Stealth forum. The 3SI guy found the humor in it and I'm just passing it on:

http://jaguarforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=31216&highlight=water+pump

I know when I go looking for technical advice here, I will be given words of wisdom and the results of experience and knowledge (except in OD).

This doesn't seem to be true of other groups. To quote the OP on the 3000GT forum, "you couldn't make this stuff up." I hope none of you spend much time trying to get the upper and lower radiator hoses the same temperature.

What is amazing is that it took a bunch of posts before somebody figured it out!

Not all of them. Jags have a certain je ne sais quoi on this forum. I think this thread outlines it quite well.

Yeah Fulcrum, those sound like the Jaguar I remember

In high school, one of our friends (the only rich one, the rest of us drove the family car which was usually worth less than $1500.) had a '71 E type. That in itself was comment on the times. Pat was adopted and all of his friends knew he was part Black, but his parents claimed he was Italian. The Jag was part of the image they wanted for their adopted child. It mattered to his parents and their friends that he was not part Black, but not to Pat and his friends.

The Jag was the greatest pussy-wagon on earth, when it ran. Even though it was only a year old, it was a weekly project to get it to run for the weekend. We spent lots of after-school Fridays trying to get the four carbs to agree with each other so it would run decent. When Pat scored, he would run past our hangout and give us the thumbs up. At least two times a weekend when it ran.

I can't help wondering how many partially Black people are walking around downriver Detroit with Pat's DNA in them thinking how superior they are because they are white.

As a side note, I have noticed a trend. To me it seems the larger the displacement, the more carbs the engine can handle with no problems. The Jag had four carbs for around 300 cubic inches and was problemsome. I had an Opel with dual carbs on a 1.1 liter engine (67 ci, if I remember right) and it took a blessing from the Pope, the sacrafice of a chicken and most difficult of all, the kiss of a virgin in East Lansing, to get it to run right or even start at under 50F. On the other hand my first car was a '36 Ford with a 389 Pontiac with dual quads. No problems at all, except people stealing stuff from it.

I think it has a broken rhubarb. Those are really expensive on Jaguars.

When they run Jags are quite good. Having a bit of experience with both I always felt you bought a MB if you wanted a good car; you got the Jag if you wanted a fun stylish car.

Jag has nothing on MB in terms of quality and engineering, maybe that is different today but I doubt it. In the 90's MB was on another planet, the W140 was on a whole other level compared to the XJ6/8.

You never know on some other sites. On a site I go to for a different brand of car some posted the other day wanting to know how big of a hole to drill in the muffler to get the sound he wanted.
As far as Jags are concerned I would love one if I had the money to have it just as a toy.

I put dual carbs on the 5hp Briggs and Stratton lawnmower engine I had on my go cart as a teenager. It ran like a charm. Not sure the dual carbs made it run any faster but it looked a hell of a lot slicker than all the other carts running on our dirt track.

I have had an X308 VDP for the last four years, and it has been very reliable; as least as reliable my previous MBs. However, I also had a V12 XJC that almost put me in the poorhouse back in the 80s. The new Jags are much better. Not many good forums out there though.........

The CLK Dude's advice is stellar. I've been told he's working on the next version of the DSM!
