Alternatives to shipping?

I'm trying to get a car from PA to FL. Unfortunatly a shipper I made arrangements with are taking their sweet time picking up the car and I Need it here... It's a christmas present for my sister.. I cant go to get the car myself or I would.. Any Ideas? I'm at wits end with the shipper, the guy I got the car from is great. Very understanding

In the distant past when I was younger and between jobs I did a couple of delivery drives/rides just to kill time for the cost of plane tickets and meals/hotels. It was a nice way to see some areas, besides I enjoyed driving.

Do you know anyone in PA or FL that is out of work, etc. that you'd trust to drive the car there? Somewhere in your network of friends/relatives/friends you should be able to make a connection with someone who can be recommended as a stand-up person.

(Sheesh, if I had the time I'd offer. )

I have no idea if this is still done - or if it is a good idea - or if it is safe. BUT I heard years ago you could get an alternative to holiday car hire in the states by delivering cars. The idea was that you got a car for a small fee (probably to help cover the insurance) and a realistic time frame to drive the car to a different city.

Probably not what you want - but is an alternative suggestion (if people still do this)

I used to do this when I was a student. That was over 35 years ago though. It was great.

You could nearly fly her & let her have a couple of days holiday driving the car back.

Wow I've always fancied it - though in my mind I'm driving a 1950s Buick... (reality check req'd)

That would be great but a stranger in a car with a leaky head gasket wouldnt know what to do if something happened. I'm sure its road worthy... I dunno...

That kind of takes away just about every option. Its not worth the risk trying to drive it.

I did a google for car shipping and this popped up:
http://www.carshipping.com/

http://www.moveavehicle.com/

http://www.uship.com/vehicles/

http://www.transportcompanies.com/

http://www.dasautoshippers.com/car-shipping.html

I'm sure you could find someone local to go pick it up. My father in law moves cars but only in the state of Florida. I doubt he'll go up to PA with a big 4 car trailer for 1 car.

You can call dealers or car auction places and ask who they use. That's where he gets most of his work.

Danny

Where do you carry your small box? And can you make it through customs with all that beer?

Uship is out. thats where this yukster came from. and now he's lost out on the shipment as they failed to live up to their contract... I'll check with DAS.. but there's no DAS yards near here so getting it from their yard to here would be a pain

I'd do it for free. If the "wrapping" is nice enough.

I wouldn't have some numbnuts do that for you. It is tough enough with a good roadworthy car but with a suspicious car? Do you want to get a call that goes "Oh, say. There was a slight problem. I was so wrapped up in the tunes that I didn't hear the engine noise until it was too late and the smoke started rolling. "
