150 yr old tree fell ,my remedy for the stump left over.
Fell during Ike ,7 ft across ,Im guessing 18 ft diameter.I wasnt living here at the time it fell but this tree was mammouth size from the stump size and remaining logs .I had the stump dug out about a ft down on all sides ,put an old piece of tin on top to contain the heat, then built a good healthy fire on one side. The box fan was the trick ,once I let the fire build and come down to hot embers the fan acted like a blow torch pushing the heat into the stump. After half the day was gone the center of the stump had a large cavity of heat and embers .The tin was hot enough to grill steaks on ,it made the contained heat hotter and the fan build on that heat .Id left the fan on all night to wake up to most of the stump gone bye bye.You might be able to use this trick with land your clearing , maybe as a dry northern blow in and you have time to watch over things.A rented stump grinder might have been quicker but not as fun.

Now that does sound like fun - is dynamite hard to get hold of over there?

Although the fire/box fan solution sounds quite creative. Bravo!

Except its not exactly legal to build a "stump fire" in most municipalities.

Had a neighbor do something similar although first he drilled a bunch of holes down into the stump and repeatedly filled them with diesel fuel over a couple of weeks to get the stump in a more burnable state. He then lit charcoal on it.

A few lbs of amfo & 1/2 a stick of jelly normally does the trick, not a good idea in a built up area!!

I cut a tree off flush with the ground, then cut grooves in it to attract water. After a year it was discolord after three years it was only dirt left.

i was reading up on it after i posted that...only like 7 people still there, most bldgs gone, and they're forcing the rest of the people out citing eminent domain. the article says it looks like woods with a bunch of streets going through it! i was thinking of going up there this week but i'm afraid i would fall into a flaming sink-hole
