W126 Grille thoughts. Which do you like?

The first one here is what I am planning on doing. Satin black with new chrome strips. I like the darker look. My Benz is black, so this car is a great example of what mine would look like.

Second pic is, oddly, the same exact car! Has a grille that I found that I am on the fence about. I like the look, seems updated.

I think I already know how this thread will go And I probably will go with the second one since I can always put on my old grille and sell the aftermarket if I do not like it.

Original, after market looks ghetto.

2x on keeping the original waffle style grille. IMO don't go for full satin black, go for a dark gray. It looks much better in person because you can see the pattern of the grille.

I like them both. In the interest of money I'd say the top since its a can of spray paint away.

Well not quite a spray can of paint away. Which is the only reason I am considering options. I have to replace my damaged grille and plan to buy something tomorrow. Either the insert with new chrome strips or another grill. I realize the after-market grille will not be of OEM quality. But things can be easily swapped if I dont like.

The reason the original waffle type grille looks great is because it shows more detail. This gives a more elegant front end look.

If the black matches your car's paint, it should look "continuous" but just make sure it's not too black (gives it a "hollow effect" in front, like a dark void w/o details).

Between the two photos you posted, I'd go for the first. You could also paint the Euro light "frame" (inside the headlights, around the chrome) the same color to give it a more consistent look.

This is the reason I don't like the "updated look" grilles.

Leave it stock. Don't customize it. Spend the money on OEM AMG parts instead.

Ordered the OEM stuff. The mention that the darker OEM style will give the car a more blacked out look it spot on. I also see why not to go with a black paint. Dark grey it will be, probably in a satin. I see now the chrome is just too loud. Good points guys.

The second one isn't a ghetto aftermarket, its a euro Avantgarde. Both nice options. I removed my trim strips and went satin black on my 124. The chrome strips were all dinged up.

Its a $3.95 mod that makes a world of difference.

WOW! Got my new insert today. Not bad for $25! But I must say, its DARK. I may not even paint it honestly. I thought it would be darker, but not this dark. Its practically charcoal grey!
