Rug Doctor Questions

AFAIK, they have 2 versions. One is for rent and the other is for sale.

Anyone know anything about them?

They'll Clean your carpet and leave it reasonably dry? I've rented them a couple times, I like em, the Rental and the Own one are basicly the same

It doesn't fix rug burns from what I can see.

Just trying to see if it is worth the price. Even the refurbished ones (wide track) with full warranty are 620 on ebay.

I don't mind paying more than a Hoover Steamvac but I'd like to see that I am getting more out of it.

They don't. They just use hot water from the tap.

Does the machine have a heating element in it, how does the water stay hot?

The machine does not contain a heating element. Hot water directly from your tap is completely adequate for effective cleaning. Some carpets such as wool should not be cleaned with hot water. Cool water is better for wool to prevent shrinkage.

ive used the rental ones and a Kirby. for the Kirby its better for smaller areas and the trick is use the Kirby cleaner.

the rental ones work well for big areas. I also did my patio which is astro turf. they work well enough to justify the rental, not sure I would use it enough to buy one, they are in every drug store and grocery store so there really isnt a convienience issue. I have always used their cleaner as well.

Be aware/concerned about 'Extraction' capability's. It is very important in terms of the life of your rug.

I guess I am under no illusions that my carpet will live long and prosper. I do have 3 larger dogs so they are pretty hard on the carpet. I have to clean it very often and my Hoover SteamVac is on the way out. Also I figure on redoing the carpet every 5-8 years.

Not that either. It's the kind of "doctor" you are. Cleans things by suction.

Costco: On sale @ $429 http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11382448&Ne=5000001%204000000&eCat=BC|103|51568&N=4042071%204294904286&Mo=0&No=0&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&Ns=P_Price|1||P_SignDesc1&lang=en-US

Don't know if it's "commercial grade".

If you have the room for storing it and clean lots of carpet regularly, I'd consider the Rug Doctor for ease of use due to the bigger tank. I also have a SteamVac and an indoor/outdoor dog so I clean the carpets often due to mud, drool (nothing like chewing a rawhide bone on the carpet...) and hair. The small tank on the SteamVac annoys me, but I usually clean one room at a time, so it's not a deal breaker.
