Thumbs up I like the 'New' open discussion

Everyone seems to be acting cordial-civil to each other.
Or is this the calm before the storm?
Time will tell.

"Happy New Year"

"Happy New Year"

The prime antagonist is gone............if you happened to notice.

Raises the "civil-cordial" level significantly.

Yeah, it seems better. Some folks from the "old days" are showing up and there's less political material.

I find the discussions to be more 'two-sided' than before and that is a good thing. The 'spin', except for silly things, appears to be at a much lower level.

Years ago I attended a monthly Discussion Group where there was a topic that we usually stayed on for about ten minutes before going off on a tangent for the next two hours. The only rule was you could talk about anything as long as you could back it up with facts. Your opinion did not count; only facts that could be checked out.

You could be a big Reagan fan as long as you could state why. You could also despise him but you had to give a real reason.

Reagan was a frequent topic because he existed on so many levels. President, Actor, Pitch-man, TV..... There was a lot there to talk about and it was always done in an intelligent way unless someone came up with a quick joke.

The only thing you could not say was, "I don't know why, but...."

I don't think that just because Billybob is gone that everyone has magically decided to play nice. He has been banned before while BC was still a moderator, and other than all the liberals publicly high fiving each other over the silencing of a worthy opponent, nothing changed. Do you honestly think that one person can affect the forum that much? If so I would remind everyone of the ignore button- it works great for me. The only difference I notice is that I don't see the veiled threats from the crybabies that they are going to tell on you if they don't agree with your POV, and that is definitely a good thing. Perhaps some thin skinned people are staying away from OD for the very fact that there is nobody to cry to when they have been "offended" which, IMHO, is also a good thing. To sum up my opinion; The lack of moderation seems to be working great and I am all for it. Happy New Year!!

So if moderation is introduced again, in addition to infractions, maybe there should be a limit on crybabying. Each person is issued 5 'crybabies' and it shows up beside the infractions. Each time a crybaby is used, it is deducted from the total. It will limit crybabying and also make public who are the crybabies.
