BMW (and Audi) make nothing that compare with the best from Mercedes.

But does Mercedes make a 2.0 liter diesel? And can you speak specifically as to the MB 3.0 liter V6 diesel compared to the BMW 3.0 inline 6? The figures claimed for efficiency (that I've seen) are 27/37 for the MB 320CDI and with about 19 and 27 for the X-5.

But here's an article claiming that BMW has a 3 series getting 57 mpg that is far from slow:

An M3 it ain’t — top speed is 140 mph and 0-60 takes a little over 8 seconds — but the sedan is still a potential class-leader in the premium low-emissions segment being courted by all the major European automakers. It’s only natural that a car so sensible could never be imported to North America, so it should come as no surprise that it will only be available in Germany, Italy, France and Spain.

I mean I don't have a serious dog in this fight. If I could get my hands on a 320CDI with around 50-60K on it, I'd be a happy man.

Gentlemen......er.......we have a 'Performance Paddock' forum section! Plenty of German Muscle over 400hp over there (well, 300 anyway) Keeps the forums interesting & alive imo, Personally, I'm not too interested in Audi. Current engines are pretty impressive but they lack the look. Beemas I do have a liking for. but not sure about other countries but down under, as with Merc's, boring, slow later model stock units are everywhere you turn. Like cancer all over otherwise healthy roads. They sell for next to nothing which kinda ruins the reputation side of things

A friend of mine just leased a 2011 E350 4matic sedan on Friday. Very nice model with the Panorama roof. Has the same Harman Kardon (or is it Hardon Karmann? I never get it right) system as the S-Class. Has the MB Tex which is virtually impossible to tell from leather, but for the lack of aroma. I'm 6'2" and sat in the back for awhile and was actually comfortable. The E-Class definitely appears to be the best buy in a MB. The S is nice, but not double the E-Class payment nice.

Most powerful car I have driven.....prolly the 71 or 72 vette 427 with three dueces, or possibly the M5 I drove a few years ago.

The most overpowered car was my buddies 62 Ford Galaxy with 401 and three dueces, when you stomped on that enough to open the second two carbs it felt as if the car had been caught up in a hurricane with amazing acceleration and huge noise!
