100 years old...

This year is the 100th birthday of the 1911, it has been killing Americas enemies for 100 years.

John Mosses Browning was a pure genius and he got it right! 100 years later and still going strong with very few changes. IMHO its still the best shooting handgun ever made, nothing has a trigger like a 1911.

Happy birthday M1911, here is to another 100 years!

IMHO, DOD screwed up when they let the Army and Air Force (?) switch over to 9 mm. Why screw around with success?

When I retired in '97, small arms locker on board ship still consisted of 30 cal M-14's, 1911's, and 12 gauge pumps with buckshot.

At least they had enough sense not to try and retire Ma Deuce - hope I'm still kicking when that 100th anniversary comes around.

Hopefully he was out the door so no cleanup was required.

I am about to get one soon. Or maybe a Colt Combat Commander, a little more compact, but just as much punch.

I like mine, as well. I have the ivory grips, and parkerized finish. Shoots like a dream each and every time.

I also have an older Kahr Arms 1911, built when they were still decent hand guns...before they started farming out all of the piece work.

You can say that again. All those moving parts on the outside of an auto makes me glad I have a Ruger Flattop with a trigger job. No policing of brass either.

Not a really big revolver fan, but I hear they have good triggers. IMHO a Wilson Combat is hard to beat, very precise and crisp trigger let off.

I have a Smith & Wesson 547 9mm revolver (yes, revolver) with a well-worked trigger, done professionally, that shoots like a dream. When you touch the trigger at single action, it drops, almost by your will, not by the touch. And you can squeeze off the whole cylinder in no time.

Nothing like a well-polished trigger mechanism with the right springs!

Now if I could just find a Colt Combat Commander like that....

Marvelous weapon, 11.43 mm. It was always held in awe by the combined forces we worked with. Great to shoot and carry. I was sad to see that the Army dumped them for the 9mm.

Hattie:

Not as old as the 1911, but pretty timeless in it's own right:

Yeah I need to get one, prices on them have dropped like crazy recently. You can pick up M9's for $550ish and Inox's for not much more.

When I bought my first Beretta 92 (Bruniton finish) around 1995 or so, the retail was in the $550 range, so that is a good price.
