That is truely a sad commentary on man kind. I hope I never get to the point where I can be in the presence of some in need of help and be able to stand there and do nothing. The people who stood around and did nothing are almost as bad as the punks who beat the man. Perhaps one of those who stood around will be a victim of the same punks. That would be justice ImMO.

Strange, it seems like there might be more to this story. FWIW, the metro in DC seems like one of the more civilized subways that I've ever used. Mostly just government suits avoiding the drive.

The DC crowd can get a little rough at times. Best to travel in groups of two or more people during the day.

Last time I was there, I narrowly escaped a gang made up of three lobbyists, a congressional aide, four lawyers, and a half dressed intern. Tough crowd.

I pity the fool that tries to attack my family or one of my friends.

It is what it is. People have lost faith that others will help them in their times of need so why would they stick their necks out to help someone in need?

Notice that my neck wasn't stuck out. Win, lose or draw, I'm intact.

This case requires someone to stick their neck out to help that man. With the feeling that they might not be helped later on makes it harder for them to risk themselves.

This happens all the time, not long ago a local story similar in the Philly subway, and also more disturbingly a woman dies in a Hartford emergency room awaiting care and the janitor cleans around her. Sad but true.

Depends on the circumstances. If she looked like she was sleeping, janitor wouldn't disturb the woman. Did she look dead or like she was sleeping?

Wife found a stillborn in a Xerox paper box.

That would cause me sleepless nights. A lot of them.
