Sarah Palin blamed by the US Secret Service over death threats against Barack Obama

Sarah Palin's attacks on Barack Obama's patriotism provoked a spike in death threats against the future president, Secret Service agents revealed during the final weeks of the campaign.

By Tim Shipman in Washington 2:01PM GMT 08 Nov 2008

The Republican vice presidential candidate attracted criticism for accusing Mr Obama of "palling around with terrorists", citing his association with the sixties radical William Ayers.

The attacks provoked a near lynch mob atmosphere at her rallies, with supporters yelling "terrorist" and "kill him" until the McCain campaign ordered her to tone down the rhetoric.

But it has now emerged that her demagogic tone may have unintentionally encouraged white supremacists to go even further.

The Secret Service warned the Obama family in mid October that they had seen a dramatic increase in the number of threats against the Democratic candidate, coinciding with Mrs Palin's attacks.

Michelle Obama, the future First Lady, was so upset that she turned to her friend and campaign adviser Valerie Jarrett and said: "Why would they try to make people hate us?"

The New York Post quoted Giffords’ weeping father, who said, when asked if the congresswoman had enemies: “Yeah…the whole Tea Party.”

Some one is Trolling here!!

The mods have already closed a thread that was discussing this.

So we now have some one quite disrespectfully to the mods, starting a new thread & so challenging their authority.

Posting Rule 13. Subversion or disruption of the normal flow and/or display of the Shop Forum is forbidden. This includes, but is not limited to, wholesale deletion of prior posts and posting a new thread for the express purpose of criticism of a moderator's decision.

Time to show a little respect !!

Best you start deleting

When You do, I will as well, there have already been warnings from the mods to some of the posters.

No one with any respect for the new mods would be trying this type of thread.

If all of this evidence was found in the apartment of a muslim, and the person the evidence was pointed towards wound up shot, would the muslim man be held partially accountable ?

Seriously.

If a middle eastern man in traditional clothing, and of the muslim faith, was found with a map that had names and targets on it, and one of the people that was targeted was shot, would you think differently. ????

What if the government had warned that the muslim mans actions were leading to death threats.

What if the person that got shot had previously stated that she worried that the actions of the muslim man may lead to violence ??

When You do, I will as well, there have already been warnings from the mods to some of the posers.
The thread you have linked to is about the shooting.

The thread I started is a discussion about the foreshadowing of violence in politics.
And concerns many people besides the congresswoman.

I think you have a personal beef with me because you think i am a liberal attacking Palin.

My guess is that you are attempting to get this thread stopped any way you can because you dont like it.

I have no idea what your posers comment is supposed to mean.
I assume it was a misspelling of the word posters and was meant as some sort of threat by you.

Why dont you try to discuss this topic rationally without attacking me, or trying to subvert the subject.

Or if you dont like this thread, quit reading it.

And if you dont like me, put me on your ignore list.

Thank you

Good morning peachers.

Ahhhhh, politics. There are times when I fully understand some folks desire to put the subject into another forum or to ban it from the forum completely.

Tyler rightly locked down the other thread last night as it degraded after I went to bed to a lot of name calling. Of course name calling will not be allowed.

Another thing that happened is folks saying things that suggested they might support a person doing personal harm to another. Sometimes this might have been intended as sarcasm or irony but there is no way a mod can be sure about this so these sorts of comments will be treated on face value and not tolerated.

My thought at the moment is to allow this thread to live but folks, please don't call names and don't appear to support violence in any way.

Infractions will eventually eleminate the offenders and the problem if you continue.

My personal rule about this sort of thing is to not post until my anger cools down.

I agree, can we drop this until we get some actual information to talk about? Turning this into a political debate based on preliminary information and guesses does not accomplish anything. IMO, it is very disrespectful to the victims of this tragedy to politicize it.

I already received a warning last night for pointing out that this was inappropriate (using insulting language). Let's try not to go down that path again this morning.

Accusations of "trolling" . . . a certain irony, no?
