Samsung LCD Flat Screen Problem

So I'm watching TV this morning, never watch TV in the AM, but I'm loafing around the house with a stomach flu.

Anyhow, watching Horsepower TV, doze off for a minute then wake up and the screen is blank.

I can bring up the cable menus, there's sound, and light around the edges - screen is actually grey, not black.

It's a 32" and only a few years old. What gives??

No idea, but that happened to my plasma once for no good reason. I fixed it by unplugging it for a couple of minutes, it seemed to "reset" itself. These things are really computers.

Yeah, I read somewhere to unplug for 4 hours to "reset the electronics". Maybe life would be better without the POS...

I have had horrible luck with newer TVs...if I get 2 years out of one I feel like I did OK. It might be simplest to just buy a replacement and be done with it.

I dunno yet.

I'm leaving it off for a few more hours. Then hook up my other cable box.

Doesn't sound like it's this problem, but there were bad capacitors put in tons of electronics for years.
I've rescued several monitors fiing them.
Search for 'bad capacitors' or go to www.badcaps.com.

Then there are the 2 Sony Trinitrons I have, one's almost 30 years old, the other a few years shy of that.
Net repair cost 50 bucks on one. Biggest issue is the dog ate one of the remotes and only a couple of the Universals will work one of them. One's in my garage, one's a spare in the basement.

My last bigscreen was 2 years old when it let out a buff of smoke and the screen went blank. The repair guy asked what model it was, and the symptoms, and he told me to toss it and get a new one. He's the one that told me to treat newer TVs as disposable items.

I use a 15 year old Quasar with built-in VCR for my dog to watch movies when I'm at work, and it's still going strong....

I suppose it's repairable, but I might as spend a little more for a new one at some point.

I just hooked up my flat tube Sony. Thing must weigh 100 lbs. Works well and has a good picture.

They have gotten pretty cheap, I recently bought a 37" LCD for about $5-600. I'm finally replacing a CRT TV in the bedroom; good picture but it's the size of a battleship.
