Same response as the "anchor baby" immigration bill: If you want to change the constitution, go through the amendment process and don't mess around with bills that will get tied up in court for years.

Personally, I don't care about gun laws either way. I don't have much interest in owning guns; but if I needed one, I could easily find one legally or otherwise.

Let me know when the pro-gun maggots actually come up with something other then whining about the anti gun maggots.

She had the opportunity for two years and did not so so. The legislation would not and will not pass. The gun lobby is too strong.

Sounds more like Congress trying to cover their rears - they did let the assault weapons ban expire in 2004, and haven't made any meaningful move since then to reinstate it.

Big woop - just reinstate the assault weapons ban.

I'm more concerned with the one gent trying to make it a crime to say anything or show any symbol that might be construed as "hateful or threatening" to a member of Congress or a federal official. You'd have to lock up 3/4 of the adult population in that case.

OTOH, if that same law would apply to election campaign ads.....

At this point, any attempt at "gun control" would be a gesture, there are something like 300 million guns kicking around the country. Anyone over the age of 12 could probably get their hands on a gun within a day if they really wanted one. It's about the same as trying to control drugs.

It won't get anywhere, for the moment the NRA has congress locked down on their side, (thankfully) and the wind is blowing in just the opposite direction. When the new congress comes in it will be even more pro gun, the last election was a good one for the NRA.

The pendulum is swinging in the other direction gun laws are getting struck down(thankfully) quite frequently. More and more states are adopting right to carry laws etc.

I'm hoping we can strike down the illegal Assault Weapons ban in CT, and their are some winds blowing to strike down the 1986 machine gun ban. We can only hope!

Reading and comprehending don't necessarily go hand in hand.

Or as I said in another thread - horse, water, drink, etc.

We all have to recognize that it is the NRA that has designed the gun laws we live under. I want to know when the NRA will come up with a system that does not arm lunatics. I can hardly wait for when they do, and when the time comes for the NRA to tell Congress to pass it, like good little boys.

Do the anti gun maggots come up with much more than the pro gun maggots?

Here's how I see it. Pro gun people will push for a gun in the hands of every person. They know they will not get it any more than my lawyer suing you for 100K. Anti gun people will push for stripping guns out of every citizen eventually but also know they won't get it. Just like your lawyer countering my lawyer's ridiculous demand with a ridiculous settlement. At the end of the day, it will settle down somewhere in between. Tomorrow, you mount an assault on my side and I counter. Next day, I mount an assault on your side and you counter.

I'd like to know when the anti gun lobby will stop trying to strip guns out of everyone's hands too. When does that happen?

It still amazes me that the pro-gun lobby can drum up astonishing amounts of support based on literally thin air, for the last ten years I have seen/heard of nothing except the continuous whittling away of laws restricting gun ownership and operation. To me it makes about as much sense as Campbell's soup riling up the masses because the government wants to outlaw canned foods.

Hmmmm, another shooting related thread!!

Down here they banned nearly everything & made it hard.
Now we have all sorts of trouble with knifes, not pocket ones. You have all seen the movie line "thats not a knife"
So now they are doing the same thing with knifes, if your not 18 you cant buy a bread knife type stuff. You are not permitted to carry one, not even a box cutter even if you work as a re-stocker in a supermarket.
There are plenty of guns & knifes out there. They have stats that suggest that 60% of all 13 to 25 year old's carry one. Not a nice feeling. The leo's have stop & search powers for weapons.
