How long have you owned a car?
http://www.flickr.com/photos/smuckatelli/4871401237/
How long have you owned a car ??? Mr. Allen Swift ( Springfield , MA.) received this 1928 Rolls-Royce Picadilly P1 Roadster from his father, brand new - as a graduation gift in 1928. He drove it up until his death last year.....at the age of 102 !!! He was the oldest living owner of a car from new. Just thought you'd like to see it. He donated it to a Springfield museum after his death. It has 170,000 miles on it, still runs like a Swiss watch, dead silent at any speed and is in perfect cosmetic condition. (82 years) ...That's approximately 2000 miles per year. Just thought you would find this of interest.... BTW, how come my father didn't give me a Rolls Royce when I graduated from college???

1928...Father could have been a shoe shine boy
Who said the famous quote about: "I knew it was time to get out of the market when.... In the summer of 1928, President Hoover expressed the feelings of many, saying "We in America are nearer to the final triumph over poverty than ever before in the history of any land. The poorhouse is vanishing from among us." OOOOOOH KAY! |

I owned my 1985 Mitsubishi Mighty Max for 190,000 miles (first new car purchase for ME, not ex-wife). Does that count for anything?

I'm going to say yes since you look to be a pretty tall dude and cramming into the cab of a Mighty Max for that many miles is no small feat.

Quote:
And their were three reasons I picked the Mighty Max over Datsun or Toyota little pickemups at that time: 1) Cost - $5,100 out the door for the Mitsu. Either of the others were $1,500 more. Cheapest new vehicle (car or truck) available at that point in time. 2) Stuff - the Mighty Max had less frills (aka stuff to break). 3) Room - by far, the Mighty Max had more leg, head, and elbow room than any of the others. In 190k miles, I replaced - the alternator. That's it. Oil changes I got around to as time and money allowed (which translates into probably something like every 8-10k miles at best). Absolutely rock solid never left me stranded anywhere machine. Loved that truck!

I still own a '73 914 that I bought in 1981; but it has been in pieces all over my garage for a few years now. I will get it back on the road at some point, but it's not really a priority. I also have a '83 motorcycle that I've owned since 1986. I've owned my 300D for 10 years.

I owned an Audi 100LS for three weeks once. I swear it was an eternity.
I had it towed three times in one day for three different problems. I never, ever and I mean never, drove it back from where ever I went with it if I even made it there. It was always towed. The last day I had it I traded it for a broken down Dodge pick-up truck which wouldn't start, even-up! I got the truck running the next day. The Audi never moved from where I parked it 'cause the guy couldn't get it started. He sold the house and left the car. |

My parents bought my 88TE new back in 88.
So technically, I am an original owner.
