Drinking and driving, not wearing a seatbelt...

Just got a few calls from a long time friend of mine followed by a message "Call back 911"....

I immediately called her not knowing what could be going on (I thought she was just mad I didn't pick up right away) and heard some horrible news. Her boyfriend of three years was killed at 3:30am Thursday in a single vehicle car accident. He was drinking and driving, crashed, and because he was not wearing his seatbelt, he was ejected from his vehicle.

He died an hour later at the hospital. Such a waste of life. In case you hadn't heard it a thousand times before, WEAR YOUR SEATBELT AND CALL A CAB IF YOU ARE DRUNK! Such an easily preventable death.

I am terribly sorry for your friends loss. The pain of loosing a loved one is horrific, and I hope she's in caring hands for the next few weeks. Does she have close friends nearby to lend support from?

I am glad it was a single vehicle crash.

Nah, he and she recently moved to a new state so she could take a promotion given to her at work, so her support is lacking a lot. I am going to try and catch a flight there if I have any free time or money, her mother is on the way. This is the second death she has dealt with in the past two months, so she is not taking this too well, blaming herself for not going out with him last night.

I too am glad no one else's life is shattered by his irresponsibility. May sound harsh, but he ****ing flipped her life upside down because he was reckless in his actions.

A former friend of mine was severely injured by a drunk driver, who was uninsured, and has about 500k in medical bills over his head. It's been tied up in the courts for 3 years. I've since lost touch with him, but it's not pretty.

That shot into my mind as I initially wrote the first post, but out of respect re worded it to a single sentence.

If you can fly out, do it. If not, it's understandable. I would send a card, with sympathy flowers and/or fruit basket.

I truly lack the proper edict for these events, and would be lost without the guidance of professionals.

Try doing a search on youtube for TAC. It may show what people go through in these situations.

I've noticed that the bar crowd tends to leave the bars after midnight and jump in their rides on their way to possible death and destruction. Why don't they ban together and take a limo, taxicab or choose a designated driver to get them home safely? I guess doing that would make too much sense.

It seems that when there is a shoot out, many times it happens in a bar full of drunks. Another reason to stay out of bars.

I sent the TAC video out 5 or 6 times between Turkey day and Christmas.

I added that 'if your sorry of me sending this, then get off your ass and send it to everyone in your contact list.'

If we save just one life....

They show the videos on the TV down here. There are some that are very confronting.
