Anyone try CrossFit?

http://www.crossfit.com/

They have locations all over the US. I've noticed CrossFit gyms in my area come and go or relocate.

I don't see any pricing, so am guessing it's expensive.

I was a member of similar type of gym in the previous city I lived in, but it was locally owned and operated (I also knew the owner). No $$$ issues to speak of and it wasn't much more expensive than a "regular" gym.

My kid took me to his a few times. It is a tough workout and you have to be committed, but the results are better than what you can do on your own. Workouts are in 1 hour blocks, but some can be as short as 10 minutes but very intense.

They make you take an 'on-ramp' class first to teach you the basics, which is 3 1-hour sessions a week for a month - runs around $250. Then if you continue, membership runs from $145 a month for limited to $195 a month for unlimited. These prices probably vary by area. When you consider how much a gym membership plus a trainer cost, it can be a good deal.

I decided its not for me. Their typical customer is a bit younger and more committed than I am.

Thanks for the info. That's way too much dough and you're stuck to a rigid schedule...

Yeah, one has to be committed. I did it 3x week, but couldn't stick to it for more than a year. Prices were not that high however, maybe half that.

I joined this club. I don't know about physical fitness but mental fitness is a must.

I had no idea how much money I was saving cracking a serious sweat two times a day for nothing. Unless I work a horse, then it's 3x. Thanks!

PLANET FITNESS here. . . . .

Never heard of 'em. Not in Texas anyway.

I've been getting back in-the-groove at Planet Fitness in my home city. Very good workouts since I joined in early December 2010. $99 plus tax for (1) year, (1) mile from my home and no commitments beyond the prepaid (1) year.

I'm in Houston and up until 6 months ago was in crossfit for the past 2 years. I went 3x a week. Its tuff but once you get over the hump it gets easier. I didint like the results after 2 years so I discontinued. I paid $120 for 3x a week.

$195 a month.. thats way to rich for my blood. The super nice fitness center in my area, Celebration Health Center is like $50 a month and it is a really nice facility. I dont go there, have been once or twice.. I just use UCF's massive health center which is free to me since I am a student. I probably pay for it through tuition lol.

Might as well.

Some insurance co's pay for gym memberships as well, but you have to go Xtimes/month. Not mine however...

I get a fitness center membership thru state retirement. Other than the fact that it's a 25 minute one way drive, I tried it twice and realized that the grunting tatoo'd jugheads I had to listen to would upset my system more than not spending half an hour on a treadmill. No thanks....maybe if there were better looking women, but they don't come in till later in the afternoon....

The one thing I learned there is that treadmills and ellipticals are all BS. Just do like 50 box jumps or burpees, or row 1200M instead. You get more calorie burn in a shorter time.

The gym I goto is low key. Rarely douche-baggie and a good deal of hotties, esp. around the AM yoga classes.

I think machines are okay for people who have various limitations and or conditions. I use a Concept2 rowing machine (the W123 of ergs) http://www.concept2.com/us/indoorrowers/default.asp and love it. My knees are pretty much hosed from running, so it's a great alternative with the added bonus of some strength conditioning. Assuming I have the time, I hope to join a rowing club this spring.

I like my gym, its only $10 a month and their is no shortage of eye candy to look at.

I go for an hour a day and am always on a machine next to the stairs. Which gives me the perfect viewing angle for said eye candy!

I do 4-5 miles a day on an elliptical, I'd run but ever since I broke my foot I'm worried about messing it up again.

Bumping this back up. I have been drinking the Crossfit cool aid for a year now and I am healthier than I was when I graduated from High School.

We have an Element. The Crossfit is too pricey.
