never fly into bad weather with a pilot who is not competent in that sort of flight. just ask JFK jrs, wife and her sister. the air is less forgiving than the sea

You made me google it. I was surprised to learn that Waylon Jennings was on the tour.

Some interprete the 'jester stole the kings thorny crown' as Buddy Holly knocked Elvis from the #1 spot on the English chart. Also, '8 miles high and falling fast' as the plane crash.

I remeber that Waylon Jennings gave up his seat. I didn't know he joked, that the plane would crash.

Certainly not your typical Texan at the time. He played rock and roll and married poorly.

I always thought the Jester was Mick Jagger. Or maybe that was Jack Flash....

For years and years Buddy Holly was the Black Sheep of Lubbock, Texas.

They now have a large monument to him.

Time changes everything. Ray Charles once said there are two kinds of music: Good and Bad. Buddy Holly played the good kind.

Wow, the coroner took his fees out of Buddy Holley's cash!

Buddy Holly's Death Certificate

From the Coroner's Report dated Feb. 4, 1959

The body of Charles H. Holley was clothed in an outer jacket of yellow leather-like material in which 4 seams in the back were split almost full length. The skull was split medially in the forehead and this extended into the vertex region. Approximately half the brain tissue was absent. There was bleeding from both ears, and the face showed multiple lacerations. The consistency of the chest was soft due to extensive crushing injury to the bony structure. The left forearm was factured 1/3 the way up from the wrist and the right elbow was fractured. Both thighs and legs showed multiple factures. There was a small laceration of the scrotum.

Personal effects found with the body are listed on a separate sheet in this report.

Fingerprints were taken of the deceased for purposes of identification.

Ralph E. Smiley, MD
Acting coroner

Personal effects, Charles Holley

Cash $193.00 less $11.65 coroner's fees - $181.35 2
cuff links, silver 1/2 in. balls having jeweled band Top portion of ball point pen.

Got quite a bit of BH on the iToons. My older brother was a big fan and I guess I picked up BH as well as Roy Orbison from him. That myth about Buddy flying the plane refuses to die.
Interesting coroner's report. Almost 200 dollars in '59 was some pretty decent walking around money.
To me, the loss of Ritchie Valens is even sadder. He was just starting out really, only had the one hit and nowhere to go but up, and was an ethnic anomaly in the music industry of the 50's. Not that anyone KNEW he was latino at the time.
