I think this weekend, we will see a clash. however, the protestors dont seem to have the military on their side or a focused spokeperson for them all. could be a Tianamin Square all over again....

Pro-Mubarak rioters chase reporters in Cairo hotels

"For their own protection." most likely that means they are about to take the gloves off and they dont want anybody to witness it....

I've watched a few of the US TV news reports the past couple of days. Last night NBC was filming off of the streets. They are not or don't feel secure filming on the streets anymore. THey are pointing the finger at Mubaraks supporters. From their reports and film, the army is taking a neutral stand. They ran some tanks between both factions and laid down a smoke screen. It looks like a street war.

In your world that means death threats. And you wonder why reasonable people want to stop your "culture" from expanding.

Before we all take sides in this mess, it would be nice to know if anyone is really a "good" guy. Someone who would value human rights of all Egyptians, allow free speech....anyone like that emerging?
Seems more like everyone is ani\ti the current President. Like the repubs are learing in the USA--its not enough to be anti_______; you must field a candidate. The repubs win every straw poll of "gneric" Repub versus Obama, but they trail in every pole that names an actual candidate versus Obama.

The current administration has been propped up by American money for a long time. The end result of that type of long term assistance as not been good in actual experience. The people never wanted what was forced on them. At least in the last thirty years or more for many countries this is so.

The Egyptians could turn extremely radical if they feel there is nothing to lose. Politically those countries tend to swing from one extreme to another. The middle ground became a casualty of earlier policies.

By the time to change comes along things are in so serious a state there is little actual reason left. I have no doubt that quietly there is a lot in the background going on to see if the current regime can be saved.

This of course by external countries that may well have been the cause of today. If the military felt their government where legitiment I think they would have supressed the demonstrations. It would not suprise me if new external funds where flowing to the suporters of the current regime. A real civil war with the military not involved is a possibility now. Possibly funded externally. I too suspect this is a real reason to get the reporters out of the picture.

Beating up the reporters does not seem like a good sign.

Mubarak's regime has ruled in this manner for over 30 years..I dont suppose they are going to give up the power easily.
