it is if you run horses for miles in it and then corral or put them in trucks...they often get pneumonia from it, not to mention just plain dying from running away from asshats in helicopters.

I have seen asshats on the Miataforum. I always smile when I read it. Of course it is not allowed here.

That's just dumb. Why can't the horses and the cattle exist on the same plain?

They can. The BLM's focus however is not on the coexistence of species. It's on the "productivity" of public lands. The ranchers who run cattle on public lands, who I call Welfare Ranchers, don't believe in any competition for their cattle and sheep, be they wild horses or elk, and they have a very strong lobby. It's the same lobby that encourages the use of aircraft to gun down predators. Keep in mind that a significant amount of the beef in your supermarket started life on western public lands, where businessmen are subsidized by the government to help them control the overhead on their products. Such a deal. All the romance and mystique of the individualist western cowboy while being propped up by the feds so we can all have cheap meat.
