Very old birch bark canoe

Belonged to a British officer who fought against the rebellion in the colonies in the 1770's.

Did Indians put a "made in the USA" stamp on it ,if so it should be shipped back over due to us winning the war .Surrender all your arms and conoes kind of thing. My question for the english military back in the day is ,whats up with the red coats? why this type of camo ? Was it just sheik for royalty to view marching soldiers in then become a battle disipline. You must of really felt like a toy soldier if one was to be marched into battle wearing stockings and a wig.The Big wigs really had no brains under them, did they.I will give it to them on their Navy though ,impressive ingeniuty.

Must have been one hell of a large canoe to fit the guys testicles in. No way in hell would I attempt crossing that lake in a canoe. Storms Kick up so fast , one minute it is sunny next a few clouds and a breeze and next all hell breaks loose. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87pKV2-z-FI

I agree, very gutsy crossing. I'm assuming they crossed somewhere near the west end where there wasn't a lot of fetch to build up the swell and waves. Nevertheless, courageous. The fur traders typically paddled the 36' Montreal canoes on the Great Lakes and used the North Canoes west of Ft. William.

Kerry,
Have you ever looked at Tappan's Bark Canoes and Skin Boats of North America?

An excellent read if you are into indigenous skin/bark watercraft.
