Disservice in the Military

Federal Class Action Suit Seeks Redress for Sexual Assaults in US Military

In 2009, there were 3,200 sexual assaults reported in the military with fewer than a quarter of those prosecuted, many for lesser charges.
In fact statistics show it is more likely for a woman to be raped by a fellow soldier than killed by enemy fire.

I wonder if the 2009 statistics show how well we protect women from combat fatalities but fail to protect them from others.

An attacker is an attacker. Gut the attacker like a fish.

Sadly, some things never change. Crimes against women are marginalized....they aren't seen as crimes so they don't get prosecuted. Plus, there is a tendency to not report a rape due to fear. It is not easy to be a woman in the military.

Deplorable. That story about the woman who was attacked by her superior who was then promoted to monitor her depression was gut-wrenching.

Its wrong on so many levels. I think during WW2, there were cases of soldiers being hung for rape. Since in a war zone, possibly the same applies. It could be argued that it is a war crime.

From any way you look at it, rape is horrible. Politics involved in government work is despicable, and think that the victims need to name names, and go public, investigated by legal, and let the chips lay where they fall.

Not saying it's true of all, or a majority, but this is my own experiance with rape in the military.
There was an incident I was aware of, that involved 2 younger soldiers caught "in the act" They were seen as a flirtatious "fling" for a while, enjoying each others company in the "off time" (yeah, right..)

He said it was consensual, and took his lumps. Reduction from E-4 to E-1, forfeiture of 1/2 of all wages for 3 months, and extra duty for 90 days. In an overseas environment, I cant imagine working a regular 12 hour shift, and then painting rocks for 6 hours was pleasant. Better then the prison I suppose (located on the other side of the base)

She said it was rape, and upon the legal investigation, she was discharged from service. This is common apparently, as an attempt to avoid UCMJ Charges.

So, what actually happened in every case is muddy. Rape is rape, and should be punished accordingly. Lying, and defamation of character is nothing to skoff at either.
There are procedures to appeal any decisions, and demand a jury hearing...

this needs to be fixed. like Strelnik said, gut 'em like a fish

if you think it is hard being a female in our military, consider how rape victims in islamic countries are treated, or just women in those countries are treated in general
