RIP Borders.

Bookseller Borders, which helped pioneer superstores that put countless mom-and-pop bookshops out of business, filed for bankruptcy protection Wednesday, sunk by crushing debt

I hope they pull through.

They have better magazines than Barnes and Noble.

I never liked their organization or the general look of their stores. Granted this doesn't mean they are going out of business, just restructuring. The first question that popped into my mind (The competition with Barnes and Noble) was answered; 30% of the market share VS 15% for Borders.

I'm in the opposite camp, I could care less if Borders goes under completely.

Considering how many smaller local bookstores they killed, I suppose there's some irony in this.

IMO probably everything to do with it, although Borders sells through Amazon, their prices are often not the lowest.

Yes it makes me wonder if Barnes and Nobel is going to be next on the chopping block.

I think they do I much better job of selling a book buying experience when compared to Boarders however their prices are retail as opposed to Amazon where you can get most things cheaper.

PIty. I'm equidistant between a Borders and B&N and I much prefer Borders.

People still read books on paper? (Where is Craig? That would be his line.)

Some do - Darling Wife for one. Actually, "inhales" is probably much more accurate than "reads."

Is why cheap cheap bookcases are on our perpetual keep yer eyes open list.

B&N won't be going anywhere as the biggest bulk of their business comes from selling overly marked up college textbooks to blissfully ignorant college students at their favorite book store.
