Younger forum members may not remember the period from the early seventies to mid-eighties, but most cars of that era were absolute junk. Many full sized cars never saw 10 MPG and could hardly go up a hill, and had to be warmed up before being driven. The Mercedes of that era was revolutionary, as it could out-perform many of these cars on 1/3 the fuel. On Long Island, these cars were very popular, and I believe MB's diesel sales were about 70% of their line in those days. Anybody who was anybody had a diesel Benz.
As we all know, many survive today with their excellent parts availability. I wonder how easy it would be to get parts today for a 30 year-old Jaguar. |
