People don't make fun of me at work for it, in fact my two direct bosses are really MB fans, one is Senior VP and has a '96 E320 the other is Senior VP and General Manager and just bought an Audi A6. I did find out recently however that among the non-execs at work there are rumors going around that I am a trust fund kid (nothing wrong with that, in fact I wish I were one) and that my wife's family own's half her hometown (also not true). Its amazing what goes through some people's minds just because of the car you drive.

The next time someone makes fun of your Mercedes, consider it an honor. They're jealous.

Well all my MB are fixer uppers and they just make fun of me because I am constantly buying dented and disabled MB! I have also been told when I get them fixed up that they are just ugly! But, this is coming from my employees that are just out of high school and think only a Honda Civic EX or Nissan Exterra is cool!

No offense to our young members here! You guys have got your head on straight. With a touch of class no doubt. You can agree with me about some of your peers!

later

PS- I did have a 92 Civic EX 9 yrs ago It was a good car

My wife received so many sarcastic remarks from co-workers that it upset her. This is when she got the 89 300E which I now drive. At the time the car was 5 yrs old.
Basically I told her that its her paycheck and she is making the payments. The hell with them. No comments after we bought the 93.

When I was house hunting in the late '80s, realtors seemed to treat me better if I showed up in my 1972 250 instead of my beat up 1971 Audi wagon. Nowadays, my 250 is in about the same shape that my Audi was then, so I don't get any "Snob-wagon' comments anymore.
I get more positive comments and interest now, when I'm out in 'Miss Daisy' my recently aquired 1960 220S Fintail. I guess when one of these is still running after 42 years it goes from Snob-wagon to Cool Car.

Happy Motoring,
Mark

I'll add my 2 cents worth. Being young myself (and in college), I get alot of remarks, mostly along the lines of "Geez, thats a nice car for a young kid." I usually smile and think to myself, "If only they knew that my car was 14 years old!" It's amazing what updated lenses and a simple debadging will do! Oh, and I love Mercedes' timeless styling; their styles hold their charm for years and help make my car look as if I just drove it off the lot.

Cool My new car

Hy guy's

I bought a 1993 190e which is in excellent condition and it looks like new and believe me, I got a lot of compliments. One guy even told me not to tell anyone what I paid because most people don't have a clue. I really enjoy driving my benz. Funny thing is when I showed it to my father he told me some pretty funny stories about his. He had bought a new benz once and a friend of his had a family crisis about 600 miles away so my Dad lent him the car for the weekend..ended up towinf a car back and burning his cluth, then he lent to his brother who stapped a boat on the roof..then to beat all, when it was all fixed a bell telephone truck rammed into it. I just hope mine has a better life than his.

You should promise them that you will not force them to drive it.

To quote a line from an old Rick Nelson song, "..You got to please yourself......"

Have a great day,

It's the "timeless" styling that helps confuse people about how old the cars really are.

Most of my clients are amazed I have this kind of car at my age.

Most of my friends, like it, and most drive way more expensive cars anyway.

People mostly don't know about something unless they are into it. Most are oblivious. I had a guy ask me one day if my car was a 500.

I am currently working as a carpenter/remodler. My gas guzzlin' pickup ($60 per week @ 8-10mpg) has been replaced by my 76 300D. (< $20 per week) Which by the way I paid $100 for in inop condition. I get comments from people like, "your not going to charge me extra because you dive a Benz, are you?" or ," It must be nice to be able to drive a Mercedes"
Can somebody help me mounting my gunrack in the rear window?

I work for my parents, so no, no one really makes fun of me for driving a Mercedes. But whenever one of their employees sees me in my car, they always make some comment about how they can't believe that I drive a Mercedes!
I almost feel bad sometimes if they are driving some beater, and I'm just some young kid driving a car 3x as nice as them!

So what was the story? They didn't just fall into your lap did they? Anyway same here. A while ago I posted something about catching flak at family gatherings. Parked out in the driveway will be two Explorer EB's, a Tahoe, a Jeep, an Expedition... sigh. It's all about whose dick is bigger. I just stay in the kitchen and cook.

I'm always asked how I can afford a Mercedes. I say we never eat out I'm actually semi-serious to a point about not eating out. When I had to work 60 hour weeks all I did was eat out. I totalled up the bill one month and found that we had spent over $500 a month eating at lousy places like Olive Garden and Cheddars. This had gone on for about a year and I got real mad at myself for letting them steal my money like that. Anyway, back to the subject at hand, I now do private in-home catering in very exclusive homes. I pull up in a Mercedes and they sometimes think I'm one of the guests. I'm always in the driveway and when the host or hostess finds out it's mine there's always an "oh my" look on their faces

Wow...what an awesome post!

I have a 94 E320 and my co-workers used to think it was my parents car and they let me use or something.

When I tell them how affordable it is..they are in shock but figure the maintence cost must be high.

Two of my co-workers went out and bought the usual Accord. Maxima, Camary,....

Guess what car we take when we all eat out?
Guess whose car everyone raves being the most stable and comfortable?
Guess whose engine and pick up they like the most?

Enough said! :-)
