Those same guys did a cool video about the .40 caliber airgun that was used on the Lewis and Clark expeditions

The Girandoni Air rifle they used in the video was not the exact gun used by Lewis and Clark but one thought to be very similar. Either way those early air guns are quite amazing. Think about the pressure in those Stocks (or tanks as used in Ball Reservoir style) and have a gun that shot (deadly) multiple times on one charge.

Here is a Butt Reservoir German made air rifle..again clicking on the photos enlarges them. This one not is NOT repeater. It held enough air for many shots you just had to load the ball thru the breech each time http://www.amoskeag-auction.com/77/174.html
