Acoupla friends swapped old Porsche air cooled 4s into their old VW busses. The donor engines came from Porsches they had personnaly wrecked. The combination was frightening and one of them ended up in the canal north of New Hope, Pa. The driver kicked the windshield out of the bus to escape. The other conversion was used as a tow vehicle for the owner's hillclimb 356 Porsche.

The big block Caddy in 472 and 500 form was a great swap into pickups too. Great torque, better quality engine than a 454 and decent fuel economy (sort of).

"..fast, reliable and safe..."
looks to me like the driver's still sitting pretty much on top of the wheel as usual...

I looked into that conversion when I had my camper Vanagon. I liked the Zetec conversion personally but I decided to get out while the getting was good. I think I had pulled the engine out of mine 3 times in the 3-4 months that I had it.

Those Syncro Westys are attractive but the $42k for the doka flatbed version seems to suggest that a Subagon Westy will be pretty pricey.
