Media balance Japan ???
I have not been happy with the media coverage of the Japan earthquake, tsunami, nuclear reactor.
There is no balance, and an obvious push to sensationalize the natural disaster. Yesterday: One of the media talking heads was whining that the government and people of Japan have Rejected every attempt to get names/family of the fukushima reactor crew. This gave me a warm fuzzy feeling, while making me laugh so hard it hurt. If the media wants to help, we need basic data. * What food supplies are actually needed? * What clothing supplies needed? * What bedding supplies needed? * Are tents needed, and what size? * Are medical supplies needed? * Would the government accept fema mobile home trailers for refugees? * How are the road clearing/repairs proceeding? Have fun with this thread. |

You know, If it bleeds-it leads".
They are trying to make it bleed.

Mainstream media on TV is unwatchable, no matter what they are covering. For the Japan events, the BBC & Reuters Live blog is the best source of straight news without sensational twist on every word.

I would not send them one FEMA trailer, if it were me. If I were them, I would not accept one FEMA trailer. I saw firsthand how the "refugees" from Katrina treated those taxpayer-funded trailers.
Everything else is do-able and would probably be welcome. I'm looking into a couple of volunteer organizations to possibly utilize for a group mission work. The radiation issue, though, is a difficult one to sell. |
