And it was a spirited series of games today combined with the expected political problems.

The first match of the day, U.S. vs. Canada went pretty much as predicted. The Canadian team was handicapped from the first tip-off. Their star scorer waited for the puck to hit the ice and was completely taken aback when the ball was thrown UP. Despite the handicap of their skates not having good grip on the boards they managed to keep the game respectable. 76-68

The second match France v. Germany was a rout. Despite the French setting up a masterful defense the Germans simply went around it. 99-47

A major shocker of the day was Italy's defeat of expected contender Britain. The game was scheduled for a 3:50 PM start and you know what that meant. Yes, the Brits took tea and in those 20 minutes the Italians managed to outscore them 34-17 for a final score of 35-34.

The South African-Australian degenerated into a physical contest with all players fouling out in the first 9 minutes of play and the game called a draw. 15-15

The match of Equatorial New Guinea vs. the Ivory Coast was a forfeit as the weight of the letters on the jersey's of Equatorial New Guinea was more than the athletes could carry.

The U.N.-NATO game was canceled due to disagreements over which team would get credit for goals depending on who scored them and which team did they really play for. There will be a summit in Oslo in 2014 to determine the matter. The U.S. is expected to boycott this summit.

China won by default as despite their best efforts, not a single official or sports announcer could pronounce the Turkmenistan's coach's name.
