You can actually train yourself to listen for stuff. You shouldn't take anyone's word that it's better. Ask them what about it is better.

In terms of recording, just about anything is possible post-production. For example, I can record MIDI on my edrums direct into my computer, edit any of the notes that I screwed up, then feed it back out to the module and record that (or use a high quality sampler on the PC). Guitars can be modeled in a million different ways. Its not like the old days of a couple of mic'd amps and a tape mixer anymore.

That is exactly how I feel. With computer DAWs I can literally coerce whatever sound I want right out of the computer. So when it comes to good preamps something that recreates the sound accurately is all I ask for.

Sonic accuracy in recording? There's never been such an animal. You can set up mics or plug directly into the board, arrange baffles and reflectors, but it's no different than when a photographer or cinematographer lights a studio or set. You try to do your best to create a sonic image of the setting the producer wants . . . and you cross your fingers.

NO ONE DOES!!!

OH GOD!!!! WE PROVED THIS LAST FALL!!!!

THERE IS NO DISCERNABLE DIFFERENCE (I ***** YOU NOT!!!!) BETWEEN 99.99999% OXYGEN-FREE-PURE COPPER H.E. CABLES AND 30' OF RUSTY BARBED-WIRE!

In a conference room full of TV and Radio Engineers from around the midwest and California, (OK, there was some alcohol in the room too!) and from behind an opaque panel, an amplifier and two seperate speakers were all connected, properly, with the above mentioned items along with 3-4 other styles of cables...one style being a set of jumper-cables from one of the attendee's car. Different levels of music (as well as the music itself) were played and repeated with each material tested...

When all the votes were counted, IT WAS A FRICKIN' UNBELIEVABLE, ROTHLOAO (Rolling on the floor, laughing our @55e5 off) TIE!!!!!

NO WINNERS. NO LOSERS.

ANYONE that thinks they can hear the difference needs a free session of OCD-Management. And a free jacket that has the arms crossing the chest and are fastened at the back after passing through the legs from the front. Buckles, chains and padlocks are at the option of the listener to the insane.

Yeah...just like the Pepsi ad showed a few years ago...the little kid went in the store with the Pepsi machine and he came out with his own little guitar...that little bugger...Jimmi H.

That's why everyone that drinks Coke sounds like crap...and we have all those that sound like....

BTW...has anyone EVER been able to pull off a Hendrix sound-a-like...on the ax?

Yet? ;) :D

Barbed-wire and OF Copper. We know the difference...blindfolded...

You sir are great. That is exactly what I did to my friend with the exact same recording played through the same pre amp. He claimed the recording one was significant better than the other :P
