Attach computer speakers to the TV?
 

I need my TV to be louder when I am on the treadmill. I would like to attach speakers to it somehow. I have an unused pair of computer speakers that I can use.

Is this possible to do without buying special equipment?

what kind of tv? Do the speakers use bare wiring or do they use a jack/minijack? Most tvs do not have the capability for exterior speakers. Some newer/nicer flatscreens may have an audio-out, but most do not.

The audio part of most old and even new panels are pretty bad. If the set does have a headphone/earphone jack, then attaching powered (amplified) speakers to the set is the same as attaching them to the headphone jack of the computer.

can you tell is this might have an audio out?

I started doing this about 40 years ago, so here is some general info.

Back then I had to take the TV back off, which was easy to do since televisions needed repaid a lot, and attached wires to the TV speaker. There was usually just one, but never more than two, and almost every TV was mono.

Then the speaker wires coming off the speaker were set up through a splitter from Radio Shack and then wires were run from the splitter to the input jacks of a stereo unit. Usually the AUX jacks since they produced the least amount of 'buzz'.

The reason for this was the power coming off the TV amp was enough to power the small speakers built into the TV but could not begin to push the woofers in my stereo speakers.

I would then turn the sound up quite a bit on the TB to provide a single to the amp and use the amp's controls to control the sound.

The difference in quality was noticeable.

Today you could look for a jack on the side of the TV or a set of jacks on the back that say 'Audio OUT'. Just run the speaker wires from the Audio OUT to the AUX on your stereo and it should all work just fine.

Well, that is one way.

I would rather just grab some wire and electrical tape and see what makes noise.

Just throwing this in...if you just hook up speakers to an audio out, they will have to be amplified.
