Brass or Silver Solder
I have to repair a round piece of linkage in a transmission. Its worn down and I need to build it back up so I figured I would braze it like I usually do but I also have some pretty cool silver solder. Which is harder Siver solder or Brass? I tried to google but I cant think of good search terms right now.

Depends on what's in there with the silver, but silver solder is usually a lot softer and melts at a much lower temperature than brass or bronze brazing material.

I would use a standard brazing rod. It's a white coated brass colored rod but I think it's an alloy.

Quote:
brazing rod is harder than silver solder. You can get harder grades of brazing rod as well.
