Went car shopping today...

Well I didn't really; but I ended up wanting to buy something I test drove!
My uncle needed to take his Ford in for service this morning and since I had a few things to go over with him went for the ride. Across the street is the BMW dealership he uses so we walked over to take a look and kill some time. My uncle was like were going to make some money this year lets buy a couple of BMW's at the end of the year. As we were talking to his sales guy who was very good I saw a car I liked a lot, it was a 2009 CPO 750I, blue with a black interior, same color combo as my SDL and my favorite! I was looking at it and the salesmen is like hold on a second I'll get the keys. They want $42,999 it just came back off a lease and has 38,536 on it.

Looked clean, no issues, than he wanted me to take it for a ride. Which I didn't really want to do because I knew if I drove it I would want it. I was right! Holly crap it moves pretty good, 400hp V8 its a luxo barge on rails! Hatti wants! Hatti wants bad! After driving the truck for a few years it was sooooo nice to be in a proper German car again, OMG I forgot how good they can be. I got on it just a bit and it sounded pretty decent to. They also had a 2011 550I with the 6spd manual there, but that was a lot more money, very sharp car though.

I don't know its a toss up, will I stay with MB or go BMW?

And give up the sweet handling of the Silverado??? If it's spirited driving you're after and you can afford it, I'd go with the BMW. That is one nice ride! Hopefully you won't get kicked off the forum.

Either way, get a warranty. At around 75k miles, you'll start dumping thousands at a time into these barges. Been there, done that with both marques.

Where's Jim B when you need him? Oh well, I'll give it a shot....

"No matter how hard,
I sweat and toil,
I STILL can't afford,
A 750il."

Of course, the one you looked at wasn't an 'l', but I think the poem still applies.

Look around for a 2009 Pontiac G8 GT or a GXP. GT's are currently going for about $25,000 and GXP's for about $35,000.

These are large cars built by Holden and the GT has 355 HP. The GXP has 415 and will do 0-60 in 4.5 sec.

The two were tested together on Top Gear and the GXP came out on top. The car is sold in England as a Vauxhall, and you can see the tests on the Top Gear website.

Jeremy says is is cheaper because it is about eight times less complicated than the BMW, and you can buy parts at any GM dealer.

So, what kept you from buying it?

Get it Hatti.

I drove the Hybrid 7 Series a few weeks ago, and liked it!

Only problem is... The lack of an LSD!

Yup, lease one then dump it while still under warranty.

If I had $40,000 to spend on a car, I'd buy four 500E's. LOL.

I haven't driven a German hybrid. Wife and I test drove a Honda CR-Z. It looked cool, but I hated the way it drove. Too loud, too twitchy, don't like the way the motor kills at red lights. These kind of cars need more development for me to drink the cool-aid.

IIRC, they are implementing that instant stop/start thing on gasoline only cars too. Cool idea. But It will be awhile before I can accept it.
