Monster hail where I am

Right now in Carrollton TX, getting pounded by golf ball sized hail. Not a good car year.

Garages. Not just a place to store junk.

**NOTE** Not my garage. Just a generic picture to show the concept

My cars are in the garage when ever we are home.

Might be some smokin' after-storm deals at the car lots.

A big hail storm hit Fort Worth in the early 90's. It was very bad on a street called East Lancaster by the locals and just Lancaster Blvd. on maps.

This is one of those streets that is lined with used car lots. For a mile or two there were about 1000 cars that looked like they had been worked over by angry men with 5 pound sledges. All the glass was broken out in the front and the back and even on some of the sides.

Mercedes held up pretty good, but the hoods and trunks of the 126 cars did not fare well.

One car that lost a windshield but had NO body damage was a 1938 Packard. I guess they were made out of strong stuff.

I remember one in '92 in KC. I recognized the telltale "green" cloud formation and headed for cover...my apartment unit came with a carport.

My then-fiancee din't fare as well since she was at the store getting fitted for her wedding dress. It was pretty much "ground zero" for the hailstorm incident. A Lexus and VW dealership were located in that area along with some smaller auto lots.

Her new Prelude looked like 10 guys with sledgehammers pounded on it! The only thing on the car that survived was the spoiler.

Nowadays you see a lot of dealerships with those tarp awnings protecting their inventory..I suspect insurance companies have grown tired of paying out for those types of damages!

Had a pretty wicked hail storm when I lived in an apartment complex a few years ago. Stones maybe 1/2 the size of a golf ball, but it was torrential. Before it ramped up I ran out with my bedspread, many blankets, to cover the car with. Most of the neighbors ended up doing the same, but it was too late for some of them. A Mustang that was parked right behind me had a few thousand worth of hail damage. I got away unscathed.

I might need a new roof. Luckily I kept all the cars in the garage, normally I leave 1 out.

May 5, 1995. Worst hail storm in the US till that time.
hail storm

hail storm

I was working for American at the time and we had to take 38 planes out of commission due to hail damage. There were reports of hail stones the size of softballs.

what the hell is hail good for, inquiring minds want to know. Ala- I am sorry you have to deal with that, I used to live in Tampa, Fla the lightening capital of the world and every summer we would get nailed with the same thing so I feel your pain.

We phone up the WX man and have all of our hail pre-wrapped in bubble wrap. Works like a charm.
