You too can avoid paying a dime in federal "income" taxes, without breaking any laws.
Thats exactly what wesley snipes thought too. Good luck with that.

You misunderstand. Snipes thought he was legal. He was deceived.

But of course there is a legal way to avoid any "federal income" tax responsibilities. Don't make very much money.

Of course my point is, I do NOT want to trade positions in life with any of these people who don't pay any "federal income" tax. I am not jealous of them in the least. I pay more in federal income taxes than most of them gross, and I'll happily stay that way as long as I can.

WRONG! Even though I have a bank statement showing the payment charged through the IRS's preferred website (pay1040.com) I had a levy, lien, whatever they wish to call it on my bank account to the tune of $14000.00, and I am paying $400.00 a month until my case is "reviewed". According to the IRS they never received the payment and so they are charging me late fees, a non-filing penalty, interest AND they are calculating my taxes due on a "single no deductions" status.

I've filled out 50 different forms, sent in numerous copies of the bank charge, 4 different copies of my original form and had at least 10 different conversations with "agents".

They've got me by the curlies. I can lay out $5K or so to an attorney and hope to get most of my money back, if not all, or I can wait until the case is "reviewed". Still trying to work with them but if nothing happens by the end of the month then I guess it's lawyer time.

This is for tax year 2007. I've been fighting with them ever since August 2008 trying to get it straightened out.

However this comes out, I know I am never "E-filing" again. Sending my stuff "delivery confirmation requested" via the USPS.
You definitely need an attorney.

Exactly, I paid enough income tax last year to buy a pretty nice new benz; it sucks, but it's much better that the alternative of being broke and not paying any taxes.

Are you trying to handle this yourself or are you dealing with the IRS's Taxpayer Advocate office.
I just got a call today from a woman there concerning a client of mine who was "audited" because ex wife claimed a child after they separated in 2007. He reached out to them to help him resolve this and set up an affordable installemnt arrangement.

They might be able to help you out or cut through the red tape to resolve this.

Me? When I deal with my client's problems, it's usually write a letter or call the Tax Practitioners Hotline, which I did yesterday to correct an erroneous refund a client received last week in a direct deposit refund. HA HA they showed a "Math Error" ...on an efiled return. Somehow they didn't catch the 10% premature withdrawal penalty I tacked on, which is proper in this case and which was the amount of the overpayment.

Then, there was the client who got a "Dear Taxpayer" letter informing him that the IRS was going to closely examine his 2010 return for his claimed refund .....two months before I filed the return. Someone got his name, address and SSN and efiled a return and skinned the govt out of 5k. His return, now filed, will take about 6 months to process for him to get his own refund. Identity theft/Fraudulendt Return. Happening a lot. Direct deposit refund too. Go figure. Guy has stones and must know the systems' weaknesses to get away clean.

+2 on the Tax payers Advocate.
I would have been totally screwed if they didn't help me. Of course I sent them the same exact information I supplied the IRS with.

Also have them put a hold on intererst & penalties while your trying to fight this.

BTW I do pay my taxes.

Yes, you may have the right of way at the intersection in your Yugo, but if the double-trailer semi doing 75 MPH doesn't slow down before hitting you, being right doesn't matter much.

If you want to be a tax rebel, you can probably find lots of like-minded friends in federal prison or the local payday loan office.

Most rational people think of taxes as a cost of doing business. In your belief system, taxes would be like paying the Godfather protection money to work his turf. Do you really recommend telling Vito Corleone to go shove it?
