Mercedes light wipers question

Might seem like a dumb question about Benzs with headlight wipers but as I've never owned one I was wondering how do those things operate? I've never noticed a switch for them so was just idly wondering how you activate them? Or do they just come on in series with the regular windshield wiper and if so is there any problem with removing them from the vehicle?

They come on when you have your lights turned on and you hit the stalk to clean your windshield.

Step one-Turn the lights on.
Step two-Push the wiper/turn signal switch in to spray the windshield with washer fluid. The Headlight wipers will engage at the same time.

I know people who do Euro light conversions will sometimes remove the wipers but i'm not sure how removing the fluid lines is accomplished.....

You mean there's a fluid line to the headlight wipers as well?

First, see:

http://www.mbcoupes.com/specialequipment/headlamps.htm

This is my US spec. car AFTER its conversion to Euro headlights, euro corners and euro headlight wipers.

The Bosch Euro headlight and corner kit cost about $550 new in the box.

The Euro headlight wiper assemblies, come with different motors than the US spec ones, so I bought used ones off ebay Germany. That was about $750.

They came with one headlight motor inop,so I had to have it rebuilt.

They mount in a different place on the metal valance under the headlights on the W126 (it is a one piece valance for the sedan and two piece valance for the coupes) so I bought two Euro spec new valances for the coupe - about $200, from the Mercedes Benz classic center in Orange County, and had them shot in 199 Pearl Black (about $100) by a local body shop.

So it's all done now. Fully euro.

But it wasn't cheap or quick to convert them. About $1550 at least to ds0 9t right. It is not fun to think of he cost but I do like the look, beam pattern and brightness, it is what the Mercedes Benz factory and the engineers intended, and Americans would have had until the US Government lawyers and sealed beam headlight lobbyists decided THEY knew better.

But the US mandated ones look really ugly.

This was what my US spec car (and friend Bruce Tranter's - also a 1991 - looked like in about 1997. The US spec headlights, wipers, and corners are AWFUL !!!

Judge for yourself.

Yeah they run off a separate pump on the windshield washer reservoir.

On some models the whole thing is heated as well.
