Rotary engine

I've understood how they worked in theory but I'd never seen one run before:

I used to read Biggles books as a kid and he flew a Sopwith Camel which had a rotary engine.

I always thought these revolving cylinder driven engines are really cool, thanks for the link! I prefer the Wankels though

Wankels stole the name. Not sure I'd want to pilot one of those planes. No sump, total loss oil system. All the lubricating oil got thrown back on the plane and pilot. I think I read 12 quarts an hour.

That's known as a constant mess oil system.
How about a rotary engine in the front wheel of a motorcycle?

Very cool. I saw a photo somewhere of one on the back wheel of the motorcycle. I wonder how the gyroscopic effect of the motor effects the overall handling. How is that thing clutched?

There is a difference between a radial and a rotary engine...

Yes, that's why I posted this thread. The engines in the YouTube videos are NOT radial engines. They are rotary engines. The crankshaft is affixed to the frame of the airplane and the whole engine block, pistons and all, spin around the crankshaft. It's vice versa in a radial engine.
