I do and both of my parents do.... Dad is 62 and mom is 55...

I use it occasionally, mostly with my kids. I prefer to use e-mail for anything important (work related) because I'm able to keep an organized archive of my e-mails. SMS/MMS is temporary, like a phone call.

I do. send Random pictures I come across to those who'd find it funny.

No idea what those acronyms are.

I text my wife and friends from time to time, that's about it.

lulz

While I prefer verbal communication, I use texting far more out of convenience. While a phone call can't be answered during sensitive times, text messages tend to be more lenient.

Having said that, I am notorious for not responding to texts.

I do, for both personal and business applications. It's great with my salespeople since I can quickly get them quotes or application rates in a matter of seconds without me waiting for them to find a pen or the usual phone etiquette formalities (which there is still a time and place for).

The Mrs. sends me reminders and honey-do lists constantly. :o

It's becoming a more valuable business tool for us as well as more of our customers fall into the 25-35 demographic (mainly the golf course superintendents and sports turf managers) since that is the preferred form of communication. They are never without their smartphone or tablet. A salesperson can make 5 phone calls to a client's cell or office number, leave messages and not hear back for days or never hear back. But if they send them a text, they'll usually have a response within minutes if not seconds. The dinosaurs not willing to adapt will lose the sales to those that will or the younger ones that already communicate that way. The key is to know your clients and their preferences.

Emails are already "old school."

I think there is an app for that

I text a good deal. It's easier than calling sometimes.

Out of curiosity, how do you archive your text messages with each client to maintain a record of your correspondence?

He has an iPhone. It will keep messages forever, assuming you do not delete it.

I use "BusyToDo" as a to-do list manager on my iphone because it integrates with my desktop calendar applications pretty well.

I almost never use my phone as a phone, but I can exchange e-mail just as fast as texting from my phone and everyone has e-mail on their phones now.

I'm on my third iphone in 4 years and will replace it as soon as the new ones come out.

I have 1000s of emails to/from clients dating back to about 2001, they are organized in folders by project and are all accessible from either my phone or any computer. A chronological list of test messages would be worthless to me. Also, your text history is sometimes lost when you change phones and it is not shared between devices. Texts are fine to send a quick note (instead of a phone call), but not for anything that requires a record (the type of business correspondence that used to be done by letter).

While true, it depends on the nature of the correspondence. For things like delivery notifications, tank mixes or application rates, I'm not real concerned about keeping a record. But for quotes or project spec's I'll just copy the message and email them to myself so I can put them in my files. I don't delete any of the pertinent ones so that I'll have them right at hand, but I like having a paper backup should the need arise. I am old-fashioned like that.:)

Most of the time I'll do a formal write-up later as time permits and send them a pdf copy for them to do with whatever they wish. For example, most of my contractor clients (again it's the younger guys) just need a dollar figure in order to bid on a project, which always seems to be an "oh $h!t!" last minute thing. I'll text them that info right away and do a proper quotation and submittal letter with all of the details later that day when time permits.
