I concur.
An old-school hero; quiet, soft-spoken, non-demonstrative, certain where he stood and willing to pay the price of his beliefs. The kind of man you'd want in a fox-hole next to you and/or protecting your back when it matter. A dying breed. |

Great show and a great role for him. We watched faithfully when I was a kid. I had an old rooster who was born with one leg about an inch shorter than the other and so he gimped around. Of course I named him Chester.

A film where Arness plays a Bad-Guy is 'Gun the Man Down' which was made in, in think, 1956.
Screenplay by Burt Kennedy, directed by Andy McLaglen, and Produced by John Wayne and his brother Bob. Arness plays a bank robber out for revenge on the two low-lifes that left him to die after he took a slug during the robbery. It is the only film I know of that shows him smoking. He was so tall, at 6' 7", that the other actors had to stand on boxes when he was in a shot. Burt Kennedy once told me there were not a lot of decent people in Hollywood, but Arness was one that was. |
