Because this world is filled with idiotic, moronic, drugged up, drunk drivers, I choose a mercedes benz. Not that you can't die in a benz, you can, but you stand a better chance at survival when one of these crack ups comes your way. Crack the windows, turn off the radio and cell phone and pay attention to forward, rear and side fields of view and don't forget to turn on your headlights. I'm starting to like the idea of either a Tom Tom or a Garmin as well to alert me to problematic traffic conditions.

The pscyho drivers are out there and they may cross into your lane and create all kinds of problems.

You can't fix stupid; you can only try and prepare for it.

I don't think anyone doubts that driving/riding a bike, in a world filled with cars, trucks, buses, man made and natural hazards, is riskier than riding with "the herd." However, the same can be said for those that still drive most pre-80's cars and trucks, especially foreign imports or rigid ladder frame vehicles. It's all about risk tolerance.

Absolutely right !!
Especially if you’re flying along and you have a head-on with a white Chevy pickup truck.
Odds of survival there, are pretty slim.
:D

It appears that in the two crashes cited, drunk drivers were the cause. Certainly more dangerous to get hit on a MC than in a car, but drunks kill people in all sorts of form of transport. More drunk driving enforcement and much higher mandatory penalties are needed, including eligibility for the death penalty if you kill someone with your vehicle while drunk.

Are ultralights the motorcycles of the aviation world?

Actually the FAA (the government) does not consider ultralights airplanes. They are considered "vehicles". No license is required to fly a CFR Part 103 legal ultralight.

lol, :D more reasonable. "Fat ultralights (2 seater trainers) require an airmans cert or pilots certificate. Some of those were eligible to become Light Sport Aircraft for a short period of time when that category came out.

There are lots of websites citing studies of driving vs. flying risk. I cite one below. In this study, the risk of taking one airline flight is equal to driving between 2 and 11 miles (depending on whether the road is a riskier urban road or a safer rural interstate).

Per the study, an average airline flight is ~700 miles. Driving that same trip is 65 times more risky than flying. Ironically, when flying, the drive to the airport is the riskiest part of the trip.

I lost an older brother to a m/c accident during the early 80's.

Yeah, but I bet the chance of fatalities is a lot higher for planes hitting large things than cars!
