55 356 with Fram filter???

Considering the condition and asking price of this -

I'm surprised to see a Fram filter. Was Fram OE on a 55 356? Might it be a dealer option if it didn't have a factory installed filter?

Fram wasn't always synonymous with garbage.

Yep, Fram was good stuff back in the day. It is an American comany, founded in the 1930s in Providence, RI. It was bought out by Bendix in 1967 and the later by Honeywell which still owns the brand. The filters on those Porsches are cartridges that fit in the housing.

I had a 1948 Chevy truck that had a filter just like this one. In 1948 an oil filter was an option and was recommended if you lived in dusty conditions. The truck I had was sold new in West Texas which is almost nothing but sand.

One aspect of the restoration was not accurate, though. The spare tire was made in a segmented mold and not a clamshell mold. Segmented molds were not available until the mid 60's.

I wonder if a Judge would count off points for something like that?
