I am careful about spelling, although I make an occasional inadvertent error.

The internet, particularly Twitter, has led to the mongrelization of the language.

Nor does Spell Checker always help. To wit:

Eye halve a spelling chequer
It came with my pea sea
It plainly marques four my revue
Miss steaks eye kin knot sea.

Eye strike a key and type a word
And weight four it two say
Weather eye am wrong oar write
It shows me strait a weigh.

As soon as a mist ache is maid
It nose bee fore two long
And eye can put the error rite
Its rare lea ever wrong.

Eye have run this poem threw it
I am shore your pleased two no
Its letter perfect awl the weigh
My chequer tolled me sew.

I find auto spelling correction software to be very annoying, but that's because I know how to spell correctly. More often that not, the software has a tendency to "correct" words I have typed to an incorrect spelling, which I have to go back and fix.

I think it is about the same as always. I am generally a good speller but always have trouble with certain words.

If you view porn on your computer, you should "aim" away from the screen and keyboard

My spelling skills have always been crap. I've not noticed a decline of them with the use of a computer. For me electronic assistance is probably a bennifet.?!?!

Could it be a typing versus a writing thing? The spelling gets associated with movements of the hand when writing? Typing movements are different????
My Google tool bar spell checker is not impressed with your spelling of "hemorrhoids." It told me so by turning the word red (with anger no doubt). I try to use the spell checker to improve my spelling. It has alerted me to some words that I've been misspelling for years. And some words are tough to remember, such as annhilate. Which I got wrong again, here is the Google spell check approved spelling: annihilate.

I've studied a couple foreign languages (German and more recently Spanish) and spelling is much easier in those languages as the rules and conventions are more rigidly adhered to. In English, we borrow words from other languages but tend not to change the spelling to fit our rules. This is why we get a lot of words that are spelled funny.

I believe it was Andrew Jackson who said you lacked creativity if couldn't spell a word differently every time you wrote it. I like the way he thought!

I like to work crossword puzzles...that keeps my spelling at least somewhat cohearent!
