Waiting on 116

No, not a W116, but 116 degrees... Supposed to be the hottest day of the year so far here in Phoenix. It reached 112 a couple of days ago which was an interesting experience as my trucks AC is out. I have to retrieve the wife from the airport today when she returns from visiting the family back in Nebraska. She picked a good day to get back
I'll be using her car though, at least it has AC.

- Peter.

Hot here too, but not that hot. I don't know how you stand Phoenix in the summertime.

Drinks are cheap. Actually, there's an upside to the summer in PHX . . . it's fairly easy to get reservations, there's all kinds of summer discounts and specials, parking is much easier to find and traffic seems to be limited to the escape routes out of town.

I was eating lunch in Reno a little while ago and the sign said 100 degrees. I just put about 70 miles on my bike and it doesn't feel that hot.

We made 108 today in the up here in the Verde Valley. My power's been out for 2 hours, when I called APS to report they said there was a large outage in N. Phx also. Probably all those folks cranking down their thermostats. I just walk down to the creek or more likely, go sit in one of the horse troughs.

According to the news, it hit 116 and kept going . . . to 118, a new record for this day.

It's kinda like the old joke told about Yuma. A guy gets off the train and remarks to a local, "Boy, it's hot as Hell here"! Local leans back in his chair and says, "Well, I don't rightly know if'n it is AS hot as Hell but you can see it from here".

Yep, reached 118, new record for the day. I was standing on the 8th floor of the parking garage at Sky Harbor terminal 4 when watching the arriving flights. Yes in the sun, using a light pole as shade for my head (yes I'm nuts). There were large storms up north and I noticed what looked like a microburst driving massive dust before it. That's what apparently blew down the power poles causing the power outage in North Phoenix. I saw a Southwest 737 abort it's landing about ten minutes before my wifes flight arrived. My wife said it was the worst flight she'd ever experienced for turbulence all the way from Denver to Phoenix because of massive storms. She said the landing felt like they were coming in real fast and just falling out of the sky and they hit the runway really hard. Makes me wonder if the record heat was causing problems with the landings.
