What's this welder worth?
I'm looking for a good welder again. Found a nice MIG locally:
http://denver.craigslist.org/tls/2452454015.html Guy wants $650 with bottle and regulator. A lot of money for sure, but from what I've seen locally it's not a terrible price for this unit - IF the unit is a good one I was as going to offer him $500. Is this a good machine?! Use: misc home projects, building some armor for my Land Cruiser (rock sliders, skid plate, maybe a winch mount). Most of my work should be in 1/16'' to about 1/4'' maybe a bit more but not much. |
A Lincoln 110V Mig should suit most of all your needs up to 1/4", but if you're planning big projects in the future, that MIG you posted would be nice.

It doesn't look like a bad deal. See it work before you buy. Talk to a welding shop guy too. I was shown a $450 welder the other day that would do almost all of the welding you would ever want to do. TIG, MIG and I think it did arc too. Good forum at WeldingWeb.com , ask there.
I just did a welding project for the first time in a while. Always learning new stuff. I don't remember ever having seen gouging, cutting metal with an arc welder. |
Sure looks like he keeps that welder next to his bed. Weird.

THAT one had sold already... got a message from him over the long weekend... I guess maybe I could get away with a smaller 110V unit for what I need to do... sometimes I tend to 'supersize' my purchases relative to my needs... this could be the case here.

So, did you go over to Weldingweb.com and read any ...or post your needs and ask the actual pros for advice ? Doesn't sound like it...
