Talk me out of this Land Cruiser

Original geezer owners, 1994, 180K miles, full dealer only service documentation, recent service, new tires, flawless paint, near perfect interior, never towed anything, needs NOTHING. 5500 bucks which is high NADA, and the owners won't budge, they're not in a hurry. I know good and well it won't get 15mpg and that's the only reason I can think of not to buy it. Gorgeous truck. Help!!

Got 17mpg on the highway with mine a few weeks ago over about 1000 miles. Denver to Santa Fe and back. Paid $6200 for mine with 140k about a year and a half ago. It will need a headgasket if it hasn't been done already. Buy it. Does it have lockers?

Post some photos... honestly, it sounds like a sweet deal, unless there is a hidden catch somewhere... these trucks are fun and are so well built. Not sure I'm talking you out of it here... but then again, I love mine ('95). The price is pretty good if you ask me.

I concur about the price. Particularly in the Western states.

I wouldn't want to buy gas for it. Otherwise has lots of plusses.

Yeah, I do need to keep my eyes on the prize. This one is just so darn nice and I know the sellers and how they've kept it. I'll try to get over there and take some pics. They haven't advertised it. They just bought a brand new one and the dealership of course tried to bone them on a trade in so they decided to hang onto the 94 until they find a buyer.

Neat trucks, but I'd hate to feed it. I just sold my Cherokee for the same reason; I'll miss it, but I just didn't need anything that big, and the registration and insurance, I decided, would be better put toward savings.

Do you have a use for a big SUV? Big family? Need the room for hauling things? If not, where's the justification?

With that said, I am well aware of the allure of "neat" vehicles. If the right Land Rover (or vintage Cruiser or Willy's, even) came along, I'd be all over it, just because they're cool. It would have to be real cheap, though; no way I'd pay market value for a toy.

buy, they are bulletproof, even considering the headgasket issues

They are pretty reliable vehicles with a few issues. There's a small heater hose that fails and is difficult to access. There's a fix. Seems like the power steering system is prone to issues also. 94 has the bulletproof transmission. A center differential lock switch can easily be retrofitted to a 94.
It's more like a Travelall than an SUV since Landcruiser wagons existed before SUV's.

I've owned several toyotas, but never a LC. It's a real truck, not some wussified SUV. I tow a 2 or 4 horse trailer and a hay trailer fairly often. I use my old Ford for that now.

The 93-97 with the FJZ engine have more power than the earlier 91-92 80 Series. However, they are not an overpowered vehicle. Plenty of power for me, but some people think they could use more power. There is a supercharger kit available. I've never pulled a trailer with mine.

Is there no love for the later gen V8 Landcruiser?

I see them forsale in my area often (typically owned by country club Mom's) and are well maintained.

I suppose that's a whole different pricing segment, as they are in the teen's with well over 100k miles.
