Ebay non payment DeadbeatS

The last three items sold--the buyers just blow it off--dont respond, There a LOT of this going around now and ebay DOES NOTHING to them,, I try to get an explanation from the "CHAT" dog and pony show--a very crummy excuse for customer support, The guy assures me they will get a non payment strike------ SO WHAT--that means NOTHING.
Why doesnt ebay shut thes imbeciles down PERMANENTLY--instead of being just as irresponsible as a deadbeat buyer. They say they take action--GARBAGE. Then why when you try to create an exclusin list it says--recieved two or more non-payment strikes IN ONE MONTHS TIME????
BECAUSE EBAY is WORTHLESS at putting a stop to these idiots ruining our auctions---They should be banned the first time they dont pay-PERIOD.

Will eBay be charging you a listing fee?

You have to file an unpaid claim and wait--and wait. you can close it within 4 days and relist-and get a final value credit fee--which is ebays final cut on the auction which is only part of the 16% they get when its all said and done.
Thats a joke compared to sellers having to hassle with re trying to sell since its aveage of running an item about 5 times these days before anyone bites.

Fleabay has gone to pot since sellers haven't been able to leave bad feedback on buyers. I used to sell all of the time on there, but out of the ~10 transactions I did in the past year, 3 have ended up somehow screwed up.

(1) buyer claimed that he meant to bid $2 instead of $20, and could he cancel the auction. "Sure, if you pay my listing fees + $5 for the trouble, boy."
(2) buyer never responded
(3) buyer left me bad feedback, claiming an item didn't work. Nevermind that he didn't ever try to contact me -- I'd have given a refund and had it sent back.

Not to mention that PayPal is mandatory for a lot of items now, so you get sodomized both ways. EBay fees and PayPal.

and yet, eBay is "Nordstroms" by comparison to the cesspool that is Craigslist.

Wrong.

I've never had bad luck buying, selling (or even renting out my apartment while traveling or finding business clients!) on Craigslist. It's a lot easier psychologically to screw someone over that you haven't met. Face-to-face transactions tend to be more honest. Craigslist is theoretically more anonymous, but in reality less anonymous since the contact is generally made in person.

Plus, cash is always better than dealing with the scumbags that are PayPal

Ebay protects buyers and nonpayment deadbeats, Its crazy since its the 16-17% they get off the sellers thats their lifeblood.

That's where we disagree then. Having gone through CL folks that don't keep appointments; want to negotiate prices down to the last second; lowball and trade offers; and then the risks of meeting up at some location . . . eBay isn't so bad.

When was the last time you read in the news about somebody getting hijacked, mugged or otherwise physically messed up while closing a deal on eBay?

Not worried about getting mugged or beat down -- I live in NYC so there are plenty of public places where I can meet someone if they seem skeevy (cafe down the street from my building). The chance of getting mugged is about the same as encountering a mugger randomly.

Funny how people used to buy and sell off classified ads all the time with no worries, and now everyone is afraid of CL which is basically the same thing. Crime isn't worse than it was 20-30 years ago. In fact, it's down significantly.

As far as lowballing and negotiation, set your price so you can afford it, and know what your item is worth. Just part of the game. Done it (offered half the asking price on the 240D and got it for only slightly over my offer since the guy was moving and needed to sell) and had it done. It's business, not personal; live with it or get over yourself.

Couldn't agree more. Sellers can't leave buyers anything but + feedback now, which is a shame.

I cut back on using ebay for this reason.

Had to move some golf things and the guys who bought...well, they were no shows!

All they get is a slap on the wrist from ebay.
Don't need the hassle.

Of course, what the + feedback says doesn't need to be positive.

There's also nothing to stop someone from plastering a deadbeat's real name, nickname, and contact info (if any) on a public place on the Web.

Leaving a "negative" positive feedback for a buyer is considered a policy violation by eBay. If the buyer is savvy enough to report it, eBay may remove it and hand the seller a policy violation. Those who are serious about selling on eBay try to stay out of the eBay doghouse.
