I recently sent my 16 year old son to Italy for 2 weeks. When he came back an Italian friend of mine was at the house and he told my son-"my ancestors risked their lives and spent all their money to get out of Italy and come to the U S, so why the hell would I want to pay to go back there?"

It's not only third-worlders -- it's migrants within the US who come to the coastal cities from poorer/more rural states as well.

We signed. At least the people get to weigh in on the issue now. I think citizens have had enough of the sanctimonious nanny state government that spends our tax dollars a little too freely.

Funny- if we are going to talk about other people and how stupid they appear because they are not from the same place we are then you've opened the wrong door Mr NYC. However, I refuse to assume/categorize/pigeon hole the world's people with that broad a brush. There are stupid people everywhere and NYC has an overabundance of them.

Here's the kicker:

“As we reviewed our impound policies it became obvious to me that they had disparate impact on individuals based on something that was entirely out of their control," Beck said.

Since when is the decision to drive or not drive "out of their control"? Breaking the law is breaking the law- it's a conscious decision to drive or not drive- just like crossing a desert to another country is. Perhaps with this logic do lots of things that are "out of my control".

Exactly -it's a strange world we live in when someone can blame the law for punishing the criminal instead of punish the criminal for breaking the law. I'm sure this Beck guy is just caving in to political pressure from special rights groups. Wouldn't it be great if he had the balls to say: "look, these people are breaking the law so they will have to suffer the consequences like anyone else would". I bet he would get a standing ovation right before the peaceful, hard working illegals rioted and torched his town.

Not stupid at all. Inferiority complex doesn't imply stupid.

They weren't driving a motor vehicle. They were traveling in an automobile. Which doesn't require a license.

Except he'd be out of a job within a week.

You're in Rockville, and yet you signed? Wow, the world will really end soon. Your neighbors, as well as Casa de Maryland will surely hunt you down.

Draconian laws are stupid. Especially when enforced inflexibly. The US needs a little more anarchy and corruption.

Quite true. Remember the HOA thread, where everyone was ready to crucify some poor shmuck for daring to park a pickup truck in his driveway? I described how a certain family had moved in next door to my sister"s house and turned the place into a trash heap, had chickens and goats in the back yard, violating not only HOA rules but city/county regulations and health codes as well - but the HOA and city/county officials refused to do anything in the face of pressure from certain "ethnic" organizations and certain large employers in the area. Same idea - they were essentially told if they knew what was best for them, and still wanted to have a job after the next local election, they'd best leave things be and not rock the boat.

The only thing I didn't mention at the time was that the family in question were Mexican illegals. But I think nearly everyone on that thread read between the lines and guessed that from the clues I gave. Strange how the people who were ready to nail some "redneck" to the wall for parking a truck in his driveway, went completely silent when I described the above situation and refused to comment because it involved their pet protected class of illegal labor and didn't want to be called out as hypocrites.

Some of the same group on this thread, who were all down on said gent and pickup truck for violating an HOA by-law for parking in his driveway, saying "so effin what?" to people breaking federal law and being in this country illegally, then driving on public roads without a drivers license and insurance, and complaining that they were being treated "unfairly" for having their cars impounded on the spot when caught. Cry me a f###### river.

My business is in Rockville.
I have quite a few legal Latinos on the payroll, and plenty more as customers every day. Good workers. The majority are very nice people.

That said, I don't believe the state of MD should offer discounted education to folks who are not here legally.

My point exactly. Or if it's that important, let the people decide. My daughter had an assignment to give a talk in favor of the Dream Act in one of her college classes. She did an admirable job, but the more we listened and thought about it, the less convincing it became. She felt the same way. It would become a joke, just like medical marijuana where everybody has a doctor's note.
